Far Cry 3 HUD Patch Planned

Ubisoft is planning a patch for Far Cry 3 to allow customization of the game's heads-up display and de-clutter the screen by choosing elements to toggle off. They sent the following statement on the topic to Kotaku:

Based on feedback from both press and fans, the Far Cry 3 production team is working on a patch that will allow you to toggle most HUD/UI elements based on player preference. The patch will also avoid issues encountered in the .dll hack that might create a mission walkthrough break (missing QTE prompts, critical information, etc;). The team is excited about how the Far Cry 3 community and fans of the game are enjoying themselves, and finding new ways to experience the Rook Islands. More news will be coming on the patch shortly…

Wow, thanks for that. I've seen it before, but it was just as good the second time.

I haven't played FarCry 3. I'm assuming it's a typical, modern hand holding FPS/RPG?

It would be nice to see a game marketed by how the game throws you in, and it's up to you to figure it all out. That's a big part of gaming to me. I think that's why I enjoy Elder Scrolls games (though they're doing more, and more hand-holding...) and why I liked Ultima Online so much. UO in Felucca was one of the most unforgiving, yet exhilarating game experiences I've ever had.

Freaking love this game but I stopped playing it a few hours in. Still waiting for the original. Freaking backorders -_-

Playing a pirated game that you appear to love feels tainted, which is why I wait.

Also, some of you really bitch too much. It's fucking hilarious.

That would be funny. I wonder what happened if the game had hostages in red too.

That trick disables more than DoF, though, just so people are aware. I preferred leaving the option on Ultra than an alternative Low, despite the DoF. That's mostly because the game world was designed to have DoF on... Mountains, for instance, look mighty ugly when you can see them clearly. Same goes for placeholder textures and models beyond the draw distance.

Rigs, check this out:
Turning off DoF in FC3

This helps performance quite a bit, enough to allow MSAA according to some (sadly not me).

Seems like a great move by them. Players don't like a feature, devs promise to patch it so it can be turned off. What's not to like?

Oh, I absolutely love Far Cry 3, in fact I'm about 6 hours into my second playthrough. My comment is more of a critique on [consolized] game design in general.

This HUD patch is a step in the right direction, but it won't satisfy me unless you can disable any and all on-screen elements. While they're at it, they should tweak the FOV adjustments so that your weapon actually becomes smaller like it's supposed to, not grow to scale with your perspective.

God you guys bitch a lot...

To be honest, I'm about 15 hours or so in (not counting the 4 hour 'Russian experience' before hand...lol) and the only thing that really annoys me is the map. Not only does the small mini-map turn based on your POV, it's zoomed in too much. I can't tell shit from it and having to constantly go into the full screen map is a pain just so I know where I'm going.

The side missions, while kinda cool at first, are getting extremely repetitive. I think I've found everyone's daughter at least twice (and still haven't gotten so much as a peck on the cheek for the service). The vehicles are better than they were in FC2 but that's not saying much. They actually have a bit of inertia now but they're still a major PAIN IN THE ASS to control. At this point, I'd rather have GTA4 physics to the cars if anything! At least I could control them half way decently.

In addition, I lost one save when I updated, which set me back like 3 hours. Wasn't too happy about that but it's my fault for not backing them up like a good 'hardcore' gamer would. It's almost a given updating might destroy or invalidate your saves, so I almost always back them up before updating any game. But because I have to deal with this uPlay shit, I got sidetracked and forgot. THAT won't happen again. I don't even know WHY I updated anyway. It didn't help anything. I'm still undecided on what looks better in-game, DX9 or DX11 with AA. MSAA utterly murders the frame rate of this game, at least on my 5770, so if you have ATI, turn MSAA OFF! I'm also not sure what the 'GPU Rendering Frames' is, but I've got it set to 3 (out of 0-5) and it seems ok. V-sync would be nice but my system CHUGS if it's enabled. Also, if you set 'Post FX' to 'LOW', that nasty blurring goes away. Some call it Depth of Field, but it's a little much. I also turned HDR off in the .XML settings file. Everything looked kinda cruddy but my frame rate jumped 20 or so. I'm ok if it stays above 30. But you can certainly tell if it dips below that...

It will be nice to be able to turn some things off in the HUD with this patch. The mini-map is the first thing going! It's useless AFAIC anyway...

Wow - we've got some really impressive complaining going on today. Hitting escape, holding a button down, and having to walk up to action points.

This game is well done and enjoyable.
For a game you are supposed to be playing for days (not hours) this little things start to bother to the point of making the game unbearable, like Botherlands 2 inventory, which sucks so bad I do want to play the game anymore. I spend more time switching guns and fighting with the menus than playing the game. I did not finish the campaign and have a Season Pass waiting to be redeemed, which I think I will not. This type of small complainings are important.

Yeah, really stupid that we have to "look for the prompt" in order to do something. How about programming your game to be intelligent enough to figure out that I'm trying to do that thing, rather than use big red buttons as a crutch?

You know what drives me most nuts about this game? That you have to 'hold' the action key down. Why cant I tap space like every other game in existence?! What is crazy is there is nothing that requires you to only tap the use key (space for me), so I see absolutely no reason they made it 'hold' instead of 'tap'.

I'm also getting really f'in tired of every game telling me what I need to do to open doors, use items, etc. Press 'x' key to use item. Every time I go to use something the game brings up another immersion breaking flashing white 'press x to use'. I've only been gaming for 30 years, you'd think I'd have figured that out by now. At least in some games you can disable that shit. But no, thanks a great deal to consoles just about every game holds your hand through everything. Do developers truly think my attention span is 1/2 a second?

I've had some decent fun with the game. Not worth $60 IMHO, and most certainly not as good as the 2nd one (as flawed as it was in ways). Did not live up to my expectations, but fun for a diversion.

The worst offense is the p2p based multiplayer, never before in a PC game hath I seen such crappy MP.. and it is sad, because the MP appears to be pretty fun, but it's unplayable...
