Maybe Mike will finally stop whining about how terrible PC gamers are. (Or, even better, become a total hypocrit tool and form an indie PC dev.)

Not surprising. "The fanbase that got them where they are" is such a rally cry with some people. I'll never understand it. Somewhere out there dozens of people are saying the Beastie Boys sold out when they switched from hardcore to rap. Someone is whining that American Express should still be catering to the telegram business.
Gears of War 3 is their best selling title. Ever. And, creatively, they've left that behind, giving it to their sister studio so they can move on to something new.
They could've done Unreal and/or UT proper service while still pooping out Gears of War 3, it's not like there is a conflict. They just inexplicably drove those great franchises into the ground before they even turned into franchises, then blamed the boogeyman. The Unreal universe was never great, UT3 was a proper service and is the best Unreal game to date, and they actually couldn't do it because the studio in Raleigh didn't or couldn't grow fast enough to support multiple titles on multiple platforms at once. |

| Makes you wonder what's really happening backstage at Epic, all these exits can't be just a mere coincidence. |

| I would be sad if this meant the unreal franchise was done for... oh wait, it already is dead. Well at least UE4 will be awesome. Would be cool of the unnamed game is unreal 3. |

Half their team left u say, Beamer? Where'd they go? There could be hope for them yet.. I was exaggerating when I said half, but a chunk went to the Hard Reset team and a chunk of the senior/founder guys left recently to dunnowhere. |

Oh, wait, I forgot they sold shares to Tencen. At the time I said it was because some stakeholders wanted to cash in while the cashing in was good and enjoy a quieter life.
Here we go: Mike retires. Took that money and is going off to lead a less stressful life. Enjoy his wife, his baby, and his Ferraris in peace! |

So, Rod, Cliff, half of PCF, and now Mike? Several "contributors," too, as in guys that did a ton of work but weren't also talking heads (not to say the above were merely that.)
Kinda surprising. Still, so long as Tim and Mark are there, it's Epic. Not certain who's leading game design, but there are a few people in the company I can see replacing Mike. This is a company, though, that prided itself on having pretty much a 99.9% voluntary retention rate, and it's been a rough 2012. |

They have UE4 in development, along with at least 3 games in production (People Can Fly's Gears of War game, Fortnite, and Epic's unnamed Xbox3 game). They're not going anywhere. |
