If you don't like that, boo fucking hoo. Cry me a river and tell me how you're being oppressed because you can't help others to assault the military. you are assuming a high amount of common sense on the part of the greek military and government in terms of the supposed severity of these photos. you're also assuming that the developers have somehow completely brought this upon themselves, "because the government wouldn't do anything to them if they didn't deserve it!". does the greek government deserve this benefit of the doubt? no.
i also think it's funny that you've made the jump to these czech video game makers assisting in an assault on the military, that's some ridiculous hyperbole, particularly as the area they were in is a demilitarized zone.

If there were military bases on Limnos that the 2 guys illegaly filmed then Greece is in violation international law Because Limnos is a DMZ, 0 military allowed. |

| That would be correct but Greece is opposing and probably secretly violating the treaty for a while now. Maybe that's why the 2 guys were jailed, because if they filmed military bases on Limnos then Greece would be in pretty serious trouble. As that would be a clear violation of the Montreux treaty. According to the treaty, the Islands (among them Limnos) are a DMZ, and 0 military presence is allowed |

| I would agree with you guys for backing Greece, but the island they allegedly took the photos on, is demilitarized. Or at least supposed to. |

Like I said before about this, people are not lightly arrested for espionage. And no, it's not just Greece. Try taking pics of nuclear reactors and some military bases in the US or Britain and see what happens these days.

| Thanks for that insight BadIronTree. I think if any normal person saw military signs that said no photos, you'd go along with it and just take photo's of hot greek girls in bikini's like the rest. |

Since they are all hellbent on prohibiting photography, can we safely assume they are covering the entire base with an IR reflective tarp each time a satellite pass occurs?
Any hostile organization wanting to know the layout of the installation need only crack open Google Earth.
What idiocy.

Taking pictures of military instalations is somehow wrong. Yet the government installing survaillance cameras everywhere, spying on its own people and generally destroying civil liberties is justified?
(Im talking in general terms here, not just about Greece)

I agree with BadIronTree. It's pretty much their own fault if they didn't communicate with the locals what kind of data they can gather, that wouldn't be considered a risk to their national security.
It absolutely doesn't matter what for they spied. That they spied at all is enough to justify prison. And that in any country, not just Greece. |

Hi
I am a Greek and i have served in the army (its mandatory for all) ... First that island have many - many army camps. + many Anti-air weapons and radars... If Turkey ever attacks , it will be one of the first targets...
Second NO F@Cking 18year old solder will go out of the camp to arrest anyone that take photos... propably they called the police to check them out...
And if they were just tourist taking photos of the island they will just get the camera and let them go as always.. ( very big tourist destination)... What they must found in the photos, to arrest them, is clearly military installations and position of weapons and ammo depots...
If this is true ... its many years in military prison ... (5-20 years)...
Does not matter if you are a tourist or a photographer or a spy or a private one...
The 1000s of warning sing in Greek/English saying That is illegal to take photos are there for a reason...
I hope to be released soon and not make them an example for the rest....
But i say it again... if the photos are that bad... they are F***ED...
The last thing we want to do is lose tourists in the worst economy since WW 2 (30% unemployment) |
