Peter Molyneux's God Game Kickstarter

A new Kickstarter from 22cans seeks £450,000 for Project GODUS, a "reinvention of the god game" from this studio formed by Peter Molyneux, who pioneered the genre with Populous over two decades ago (thanks Joao). They are shooting for a release in about nine months, but will use funding beyond their target to extend the development schedule. Here's word:

Populous was created over 22 years ago, and we believe that to date, nothing has come close to emulating its powerfully godlike experience. Itís this experience we aim to reimagine. GODUS blends the power, growth and scope of Populous with the detailed construction and multiplayer excitement of Dungeon Keeper and the intuitive interface and technical innovation of Black & White. The original Populous hailed from the 8-bit era but GODUS will use the most modern technology the world has to offer.

Hmm, let me think...

No.

As others said, dungeon keeper (but EA's not ever going to let go of that IP). But that nutty stuff about "hit a button until something happens and pay $10,000 for a bigger hammer that hits harder" game killed any chance of me doing a kickstarter. Yeah, you release something FIRST then I'll buy it, if its any good.

Also, it apparently took a studio of 19 people to release that Curiosity thing, WTF !?! And how exactly does the math go about keeping 19 of those people employed for an entire year that this game is supposed to take, on 450,000 pounds?

To be fair when not shackled by the constraints of consoles, he might actually produce something pretty cool...

I am all for this, and will support this venture. I happen to enjoy his Black and White games, go Peter! Please make it like B&W, just add all sorts of functioning RTS elements into it, not just passive ones as were the key mechanics that broke your otherwise really nicely made games.

I am also totally for oldschool developers to use Kickstarter as a medium, and proceed to bring their creations back to the forefront of PC Gaming, not this big publisher house fail attempts at making any good sequel that has bean counting as their game engines.

Would love to see good old Westwood Studios back at Kickstarter.

May EA , Activision, and Blizzard die a horrible death, you are no longer needed nor welcomed.

'I know what you think you are, what you want us to believe! But I don't buy it! For three years now you've been pulling everyone's strings, getting us to do all the work, and you haven't done a damn thing except stand there and look cryptic.'
