Rockstar: GTA 5 for PC "Up for Consideration"

An interview on IGN answers some "burning questions" about Grand Theft Auto V, the next installment in Rockstar's open-world action series (thanks VG247). Along the way Dan Houser replies to a question about the prospects for a PC edition of the game, which we've presuming is a given based on history. Here's word:

Everything else is up for consideration. That's all I can give you. The main thing is we are not... we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff.

If it's released as broken as GTA4 was and is then ...
No Thanks Rockstar.

I would be willing to bet that they are not going to release it on PC until after the next gen of consoles comes out. By then they have milked it for all it's worth on those new systems as well as the current gen of consoles. I haven't looked into GTAIV at all, but this move seems logical. We may never see it on PC.

Still waiting for a RDR pc port, they can fuck off until then.
It's never coming, they've officially said it's never going to happen.

Exactly. Speechless
Ahh now I see what you did there.

I think they just make so much money from the console sales they see the PC as a needless headache. It's a shame, and I think a couple million extra sales plus having a real legacy version of your game should be worth the trouble, but obviously they don't give a shit.

I bet it still comes out on PC though, eventually, once everyone stops caring and sales are at a minimum.

41. Shareholders should ask about PC ports Nov 19, 2012, 15:03 ColBlister

If I were a major shareholder in Take-Two, I'd be asking the board why they're leaving money on the table by failing to develop for the PC market. It is inconceivable that they would fail to make money, especially if they co-developed for PC and released at the same time.

Maybe they're just butt hurt over PC gamers largely ignoring the last two games they graced the PC with.

I suspect they're too busy counting stacks of money to care.

This.

And it will come out eventually, like always.

Yes we all want RDR for PC but thats a different Rockstar Studio and that will probably never happen. ;/

I can't wait

Still, they had to shell out for the developers to port those games to the PC, seemed like they hit the bargain bin a week or two after release.

GTA IV was the only game that gave any relevance to Games for Windows LIVE, hopefully if they do port it to the PC it's a Steamworks title.

Lame attempt at trying to sell more copies on consoles?

Seems like making a PC version would assist them in releasing an updated version for the next gen consoles - but maybe they'll hang that one over everyone's heads too.

Maybe they're just butt hurt over PC gamers largely ignoring the last two games they graced the PC with.

Eh, not a big loss. Let the console kids with their 7+ years dated hardware enjoy whatever they can on it.

Thankfully, when ever I forget why I never play their games....I know, I can always count on them to remind me, they are a pathetic developer.
The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

wOW. Soo they aren't promising a PC edition? Crazy.
Even if they do it will be swamped in the media blitz that will accompany Microsoft's (and Sony's?) new console at the end of 2013 and it will also be competing with Watch Dogs. That's without even considering the backlash after the terrible PC port of GTAIV.

If Rockstar were to port GTAV to PC they would have to do an exceptional job and that's without even considering whether GTAV actually improves the gameplay for the series, as the previously game was decidedly lacking and hasn't aged well. Don't get me wrong, that's certainly possible - Alan Wake demonstrates that. It just seems very, very unlikely.

Oh, and if they're going to include Rockstar Socialcunt Club then they might as well just stop right now.
