Meanwhile, 24 million people bought and played GTA4, making it one of the most successful games of all time, and this trailer seems to offer more and better of the same.

I'm in.

Gameplay is obviously more important but GTAIV did poorly in that department as well and I've seen no evidence to suggest that anything has changed with GTAV.

Again, the evidence is in the history of this franchise and rockstar's handling of it. Look at the last 2D GTA titles. They had TONS more stuff to do than GTA3 did. It's very much like Intel's strategy (Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock) The "Tick" in this case, was GTA3.. a new engine, new hurdles to overcome with it to fully take advantage of it. "Tock" was Vice City/San Andreas, where you can see they really made the most of what they had. With GTAIV we entered another "Tick" phase.. meaning shiny new engine.. but not as much to do as before. GTAV is a "Tock" phase, meaning they have experience under their belt with this new engine, they know how to present it in new ways and develop more engrossing gameplay with it, just as they did with Vice City/San Andreas.

How can you say you've seen no new gameplay elements since GTAIV with whats been unveiled about GTAV? Parachuting is back, bicycles are back, that crazy dune buggy from san andreas is back.. we've seen a number of new things added that weren't in GTAIV.

If you cant see the writing on the wall.. you are either blind or just trying your hardest to create something else out of this in your mind.

Just accept it, man.. GTA is back.

That's the point though, it didn't tell us anything about what has changed with the gameplay. For all we know they could be even bigger parts of the game than before.

A major GTA title has *NEVER* came out on PC more than 7-8 months after it's console-exclusive original debut. This is a fact. I do not know why everyone thinks that this is going to change all of a sudden with this title.. maybe it's the whole 2012 thing creeping up on us that's got everyone so shaken.
Well, after Max Payne 3 and the effort that went into the port people assumed that Rockstar had finally learnt its lesson. As for the delay, just because previous versions have been the same doesn't make it any less shitty... it just makes Rockstar consistently shitty. The reality is that PC gamers are more discerning that console gamers and many developers have responded to that. Unfortunately Rockstar hasn't and it continues to whore itself out to Microsoft and Sony at the expense of fans of the series.

GTAIV received huge hype and massive review scores but the user scores on Metacritic rank it as the worst in the series. So excuse me for wanting more information rather than just lapping the trailer up like an obedient consumer drone.

Was it 7 to 8 months? I thought it was a year, but I didn't look it up. Okay, so wait 8 months then. Much better....

Good straw man about doomsday theories, btw. That nicely came out of left field.

I really don't like the multi-character direction. There seems to be a lot of things to do and the acting seems good tho. There's no fucking way in hell and the entire universe that I'm getting it for consoles.

This doesn't look a fucking thing like GTAIV, except the horrible aliasing/dodgy framerates inherent to shitty ancient consoles.

Shocking, a couple dozen people on Blues complaining about a game they don't even play.
I own every GTA game and have been a fan of the series since the original game; it's just that I was burnt by GTAIV and this looks very similar (except more graphically dated).

There's no need to be facetious. I'm interested in what they've done to improve the series, as GTAIV took things in the wrong direction and gaming has moved on since it was released.

I disagree. They managed to develop Max Payne 3 for PC at the same time (only a short delay) so there was reason to believe they'd turned the corner and learned from their mistakes. Also, Vice City and San Andreas were acceptable ports (even if nothing was done to improve the graphics).

I'm sorry but trailers like this do nothing for me. The Watchdogs gameplay demo was a hundred times more impressive and gave a decent indication as to how the game would play. The content of the trailer is sound and its well put together but it looks like more of the same and that isn't enough for me.

They can either announce a PC edition or keep their game. I've ended up buying every other GTA twice because they want to release the PC version later. So I end up buying the damn console version cause I love the series, then end up buying it again on a Steam sale with all the DLC so me and my friends can dick around online in freeroam (Lets be honest here the whopping 3 Coop missions they gave in 4 where pretty shit).

So I'm only buying the damn game once this time.

The lack of any gameplay videos speaks volumes.

You should take a look at early trailers for the previous ones, and how much they highlight the characters and environment, and not necessarily a technical manual of all the functions in the game.. that stuff always comes closer to release. Again, nothing to get all cray cray about.

No idea what you're talking about. I play GTA 4 on the PC, GTX470, and my MSI Afterburner is most definitely showing 100% GPU use with most graphics details in-game cranked to the max and I get 50+ fps in most areas of the city at 1920x1080. No graphics mods.
What's your CPU?
Win 7?

Yes, Windows 7 x64, Core i7 920, 12GB RAM. (Not that GTA 4 cares about that much memory, but...)

Just as I feared, the graphics look terrible. They really should have waited for the next-gen consoles, as they could have still released X360/PS3 versions with shitty graphics. The trailer doesn't give us any idea of what the gameplay is like, which is a concern after GTAIV. And the lack of a PC version puts this firmly in the "don't give a shit" category.

Graphics look terrible?? Compared to WHAT? Holy fucking shit, nothing but a bunch of goddamned crybaby whiners who think console games are supposed to have better-than-life graphics. Compared to GTA 4, it looks like GTA 5 is a whole world better and I'm STILL amazed by all the detail in GTA 4, which I play almost every fucking day right NOW. Take a fucking reality pill already.

Any random game or do they have to be in the same genre? I can think of about 20 games with better visuals but it's hard to really compare and contrast. GTA4 had a great physics engine but I'd say that's about where the PC port stopped being good.

That said, I agree the graphics don't look "terrible" as others said but I'd rather get the game on the PC later on so modders can work on it and maybe we can get some better AA going on (jaggies like crazy there).

It was certainly a well done trailer but it's a cinematic trailer, not real gameplay. I'm more anxious to see if they have revisited their awful cover implementation and general control schemes.

It's been a long time since I played GTAIV but I remember it being a heavily CPU bound game that was very light on GPUs, benchmarks seemed to complain about that too.

Yes, it's mostly a cinematic trailer, but it's all done with the in-game engine, which is what I wanted to see. I think it's a safe bet that gameplay will be much the same as any GTA game before simply because it's a formula that works.

I've yet to play more than about an hour of the GTA4 campaign thanks to the lousy controls and driving physics so I'm not holding my breath. It does look cool but a shitty PC port (and I'm usually defending such things) coupled with driving being unpleasant in a primarily driving game means I'll wait this one out.

I was very bothered by the controls on PC when I first got GTA 4 too, which was just a few months ago, believe it or not... BUT, after a few hours of practice with it, it wasn't a problem. Now, I can drift the car around corners and do pretty much anything I want with the keyboard controls just as well as any driving game that uses my G25. I think the default physics in GTA are fantastic and it's more a point of getting used to the controls than anything else, and once you do, the beauty of the physics become more apparent.

Let's just say that I also played Test Drive Unlimited 2, and GTA 4's car physics are 1000x better, and yet TDU2 is supposed to be a driving game.
