Ships Ahoy - RIFT: Storm Legion

The RIFT Website announces the new Storm Legion expansion for RIFT is now available, adding a bunch of new content to Trion's MMORPG. Here's word:

Storm Legion™, the highly-anticipated first expansion to the award-winning MMORPG RIFT®, launches today in North America and Europe. Veteran Ascended can now travel to the ancient continents of Dusken and Brevane where their skills will be put to the ultimate test as they face off against the dragon lords Crucia and Regulos, ultimately determining the fate of plane-ravaged Telara.

Tripling the size of the game world with two new continents, the capital city of Tempest Bay, seven dungeons, and three raids, Storm Legion is one of the deepest MMO expansions ever. An epic questline will open up new adventures, increasing the level cap to 60 and propelling players into massive new zone events and heroic content. Additional features include four new souls (RIFT’s classes), player housing Dimensions, capes, new rift types, and much more.

“Storm Legion is a labor of love, and we dedicate it to our incredibly amazing players.” said Scott Hartsman, RIFT Executive Producer and Trion’s Chief Creative Officer. “Their feedback and critique throughout the expansion’s development really pushed it over the top, making it a truly special experience. Thanks to them, Storm Legion is huge, dynamic, and incredibly fun to play.”

If GW2 doesn't keep churning out new content/progression, I will easily jump back to Rift...Rift was such a fun game on every level.

Only reason I stopped playing was because of the guild I was in.

I agree. Rift was the only MMO other than sandbox ones that never made me regret my sub because of all the new content they pumped into it. That GW2 is doing it without a monthly sub blows my mind a little bit.

$50 for an expansion and a monthly fee? Lulz.

Yeah... Rift was fun back when sub games were the only real option. But umm... GW2... over two months in and there's still loads of stuff I haven't done, not to mention a new dungeon, zone, and PVP map coming this week. All that for a one time fee of $60, you can't beat that.

I'm addicted to GW2, to the extent that I haven't even installed the copy of Skyrim or any of the other games I picked up in the summer sale (not quite true, I did play ME2 for an hour). No grind, great graphics, immersive world, encourages collaboration, log on for an hour here and there and still get stuff done. Really well put together, great game design.

I'm also anticipating running dungeons when hitting level 80. In other MMOs it takes ages to put a group together (no tank, no healer etc), but in this one it takes like 5 minutes and the dungeons all seem to take half an hour to finish. And there's still lots of strategy involved in a good run done by skilled players. Fun fun fun, and no monthly fee.

Skyrim was my love affair for like.. four months. I still love it and I really want to get the DLC sometime, too. It's just that it's singleplayer and I tend to devote more time to stuff I can do with friends. GW2 has pretty much dominated my gaming time because of this.

As far as dungeons, I run a lot of them. Some are designed really well, and are what I call challenging but fair dungeons. Others are downright broken. Still, the dungeon content is pretty good just bear in mind that if you go in with 5 DPS you might be able to get through it just not without a hefty repair bill. Having a support player, especially playing a class that does great support like Ele/Necro/Guardian, will make things smoother and ultimately, more fun.

Thanks for the advice! Yep, my main is a big ol' Nord Guardian, and I've been looking at support builds for some time already. Can't have too many (if any) glass cannons in those dungeons - bad for the health and for the wallet.

The only thing this Rift expansion has up on GW2 is player housing. Something I really hope ArenaNet picks up for GW2.

I have been seriously tempted to get back into Rift after a year off because of the expansion hype.

Was a rather enjoyable experience really. Just had some schedule issues that made it hard to get together with people I enjoyed playing with that caused me to stop before (that and Skyrim and a few other games released about that time caused a few disappearances).

The beta was a blast. The community and the developers really made the entire beta fun. That carried over to the first month. I too ran into scheduling problems when it came to subscribing however. I bought the game at launch precisely because I thought the game was well done and beta was so fun. The problem, and this goes for any subscription based MMO, is that I just don't have the time to play the game enough to make it worth the monthly fee. I totally understand why people would stay and pay to play though, I think it is one of the most enjoyable MMOs out there. If I had the time to devote to properly participating in PvP and endgame, I would pay the sub.

Ya... I wonder this about 90% of games released nowadays too... If I don't want it, no one else must...
