NVIDIA Beta Reference Drivers

NVIDIA now offers new beta version 310.54 GeForce reference drivers for NVIDIA graphics cards. The beta includes Windows 8 support, and in spite of the beta status, is also the recommended driver for a couple of upcoming PC games: "This is the recommended driver for the best experience in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Assassin's Creed III, providing up to 26% faster performance in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and up to 18% faster performance in Assassinís Creed III, as well as smooth, shimmer-free graphics with TXAA antialiasing in both games." Thanks Charles.

HDCP doesn't like non-WHQL drivers or something. I had to roll my beta AMD drivers back to use the Windows 8 Videos app (it had Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace in 1080p while iTunes was only 720p), so, eh.

Strange, as I always use the latest beta drivers and haven't had a problem. Heck, even when I was using beta Win7 drivers on the Win8 consumer preview I didn't have any issues.

I installed these the other day and haven't had any issues.

I've actually been burned more by WHQL drivers than nvidia's beta drivers, go fig.

Anecdotal evidence abound. For instance, I have never had any problems with a beta driver for NV GPUs. Last time I had issues was probably when the drivers were called Detonators.

I fucking hear that, did the 3.10.33 beta 4 days ago and suddenly my card starts running afoul of the TDM bug (windows shuts down a process it thinks is about to crash, nvid's variable clock speed can trigger this, ends up crashing games constantly) permanently... Rebuilds and rollbacks didn't fix the issue.

Only fix is to use 3rd party software to fix the clock at a constant speed, then it's perfect (ie. so hardware is not borked).

And that's only for the 680 and 660... Not that it really matters, as any mid-range video card will max it out at 60+ FPS. Though some people are saying the new drivers fix problems they had with the game crashing, so you may need to update regardless.

Translation: "we fixed some crap in our programming that made Black Ops 2 run 26% slower than it should".
