Electronic Arts Financials

Electronic Arts fiscal Q2 reporting tops expectations based on strong digital performance, as word is: "Digital revenue grew 38 percent to $324 million from a year ago." In spite of that, the bottom line suffered: "The net loss for the second quarter widened to $381 million, or $1.21 a share, from $340 million, or $1.03 a share, a year earlier. Revenue fell 0.6 percent to $711 million, the company said." They are also tempering expectations for their next quarterly report, saying: "Competitive pressure during the holiday buying period and lower-than-expected sales of the latest 'Medal of Honor' game contributed to the conservative guidance."

This is why the US is going bankrupt: Because companies can keep fudging the books so they can report loss after loss after loss after loss after loss after loss ad infinitum.

EA hasn't reported an actual profit in like ten years. If they really made no money, how the fuck would they still be in business?

Medal of Honor Warfighter is proof that EA wants to slowly kill themselves. Just die already...

Fifa was recently released and that is a massive worldwide hit. It is only available on Origin so that may be a slightly above average figure. They also reported "strong digital growth" after BF3 was released.

Total revenue is also down .6 percent which means people are not buying more EA games, they are simply buying them off of Origin instead (when forced to).

Lastly, if half of their sales are now coming from higher margin digital sales, having a 54% net loss on total revenue seems especially terrible. Clearly with games like MoH they are not investing wisely..

The sooner EA goes under the better.

I can't imagine that they envisioned Call of Duty-like numbers for the lastest Medal of Honor, so the game must have really tanked thus far. Not surprising given how samey it looked. As far as their "strong digital performance", I guess Origin is finally starting to take off some. Me, I'll just wait until they get their heads out of their asses and start releasing their games on Steam again.

I'm amazed they had any real expectations for Medal of Honor.

Tells you a lot on the state of mind of publisher's CEOs and their expectations.

I didn't even know it had been released, so clearly their advertising isn't up to the job. And yeah, the previous game was utter shit - Steam says I put 69 minutes into it and a lot of that was spent replaying glitchy levels.
