I have some optimism here. Having Ubisoft involved to such a degree could turn out really good (actually being relevant and respectful of the game world) or really bad (having little experience with actually producing good films). Storywise Assassin's Creed is a wide enough canvas that there are actually a lot of possibilities for what the movie could be about, unlike so many other game movies where they have to add a bunch of weird junk to even make the game stuff make sense in a movie. Will be fun seeing what happens!
I still love the Super Mario Brothers movie lol. He's got a bob-omb! |

| It might actually be good if they stay away from the established (past) characters and settings and did something original, just for the film. |

He was effing amazing in Inglorious Basterds and the perfect choice for a young Magneto - the scene in Argentina is just one of the best in any film ever. However, he doesn't strike me as the right choice for Ezio. Not even sure who I'd choose to play it but he wouldn't be it.
The movie is likely not going to be about Ezio, actually. It'll probably have very loose ties to the game universe (as in Assassins vs Templars for freedom/control of the world,) but not tread on any of the game's canon.
Creston Ahh yes, that is proably most likely. Still he doesn't strike me as that sort of assassin. I could see him as low-key spy sort of aassassin out of LeCarre novel or the like, but not leaping over rooftops and all that. They can do miracles with CGI. But who know how action-heavy it'll be. It might be much more of a stealthy kill type assassin.
Otoh, it might also be Max Payne or Hitman...

The role feels beneath him to me.
Watch Shame. NC-17, but great. I think Fassbender is borrowing the Clooney model of choosing movies: alternating one blockbuster with one or two smaller films where he takes much less salary to be in something challenging, experimental, and off the beaten path. In Clooney's case, he has been even financing the films himself. He was a lead X-Men last year, then three smaller, off-beat films: Haywire, Shame, and Dangerous Method. Then he was in Prometheus, but his next film again is smaller: 12 Years a Slave (again with Shame's Steve McQueen).
I appreciate him in bigger movies where he can add depth and weight of character to counterbalance the action. Having Fassbender and McAvoy in the lead roles in X-Men is a large part of what made that movie the best hero movie of the summer. That, and Vaughn's direction. |
