Industry disaster scearios:
Disaster scenario No. 2: We're right about Windows 8

I don't see how Windows 8 applies to business, and recently organizations went to win7....they are always late to the game, and I don't see them even using win8...i expect pretty sad sales and usage for 8. On top of that, no one wants a computer that acts like their phone with Metro.

6. Allowing desktop apps in the Windows store could be beneficial. Oct 15, 2012, 16:34 hb3d

I'm surprised you don't prefer that. It guarantees that the Windows Store is a very specific walled garden appealing to a very specific consumer and not designed to strangle the market in the way that people keep fearing.
The advantage of allowing desktop apps in Microsoft's store is that having another digital distributor in the marketplace for desktop applications and games could create competition that would benefit consumers. The downside is that if Microsoft's store became dominant it could kill competition that would hurt consumers by raising prices and/or limiting what types of desktop applications and games are developed for Windows to those that meet Microsoft's restrictions for its store.

Microsoft's Games for Windows Live Store has been so weak in the marketplace as a place to buy desktop games that I doubt Microsoft's new Windows store would gain dominance if it offered desktop applications and games.

Why would you even consider to stop providing windows 7 for you to announce that you aren't stopping. It shouldn't even be a thought that crosses your mind.

Yes yes, I know why, and that's a poor reason that only benefits you(and MS) and not the consumer.

Dell to continue offering Windows 7 after launch of Windows 8.

And so it begins.

Windows 8 isn't awful or something, I just want them to back off with the forced Metro adoption and relax the requirements on the Windows Store. Only carrying WinRT apps is frankly bullshit.

They carried XP until Q4 2010.

So no, this is a total non-news item.
