Loved Cosell. Love Marv Albert. Hate Joe Buck. Used to like Tim McCarver when he began doing Mets games, but before long his attention to detail gave way to pedantry. He's become positively tedious. Marv Albert is one of those that I am indifferent to.... definitely has a distinctive voice though. As for for McCarver..that is a perfect way to explain it Blue. Some people just get a bit bitter with age, I think McC is one those people. It gets old fast. |

But I don't see you accusing Joe Buck of that. So basically, you don't like his voice and mannerisms. While it's not possible for me to refute that, I would say if that was the worst I could say about the announcers/commentators of any sporting event I was watching, I would be reasonably satisfied with them. Different people irritate me for different reasons. The combination of either Buck/Aikman or Buck/McCarver just make it worse, and Buck is the common denominator. I can't think of any other commentators in any sport that bug me like he does. At worst, I don't notice them or I am indifferent to their quircks.
Or to put it another way....I liked Cosell better. Yeah, I said it. |

Mr. Tact wrote on Oct 16, 2012, 08:11: I suspect most of the Internet hate on Joe Buck is simply because he isn't Jack Buck -- his famous, well loved, father. Joe is better than most of the talking heads in my book. I hear so many commentators say things which make absolutely no sense or are completely wrong. Joe Buck seems to do less of that. I agree that Jack Buck was awesome. I would also admit that when it comes to statistical facts and superficial analysis, Joe Buck is pretty much on point. Whether or not that is because of him or because of his production team I wouldn't know.
What irritates me about him is his voice and his mannerisms. It doesn't help that he is often teamed up with McCarver or Aikman. While both of those men most definitely know their respective sports, both are also "flavor-of-the-day" analysts. In other words they have no problem completely trashing someone on one day and then when that person does something extraordinary they are all of a sudden their biggest fan.
One week I listened to Aikman trash Alex Smith for about 15 minutes, the next week (at Buffalo) he was talking about how unfair it was that most of the media don't "give Alex Smith the credit he deserves"...and then this past weekend he was back on the Alex Smith hate train again, stating that Smith never should have been a starting quarterback in the NFL. I mean..what? In the pre-game Aikman was praising Smith for having stuck it out through so many offensive coaching changes. By half-time..somehow Smith wasn't even worthy of being in the NFL? Wow. |

First I had to listen to him through the NYG/SF game, then I had to listen to him through the Giants/Cardinals game. Something about him just puts me off. Dude, there are websites out there dedicated solely to hating on Joe Buck. Yeah, he irritates a hell of a lot of people. He definitely should be doing something else. At least the "Boom goes the dynamite" guy said something funny once. Huh - I kind of like Joe Buck in a "at-least-he's-not-even-remotely-annoying-as-that-McCarver-dufus" kind of way. |

Yeah congrats Blue.
Anyway, about this Specter thing. Of ourse the media is all teed up with their aggrandizing this prototypical self-serving crook of a politician, conveniently forgetting that he's the genius that came up with the "magic bullet" theory of Kennedy's assassination. The problem with selling your soul is when that bill coms due. Marshmallows anyone?
Mr. Blue, I've enjoyed your site for many a year; it's probably themost reliable thing on the internet. I'm usually afraid to post here because of the cliquish and hostile nature of the denizens hereof, but I'll risk it to say congrats.
PS - I hope you appreciate the subtle humour of the above. I suspect I'll be attacked by the afore mentioend cliquish and hostile before I even press "post". |
