I think its silly given how little is unique about the story, setting and whatnot but you can't argue with nostalgia. "Console version of Doom except shittier" sounds weird. You couldn't jump in Doom. In Halo you had large battles with tanks and planes. That preceded BF1942 by a year.
You can argue all you want about the gameplay, whatever, and the lack of online multiplayer made the first a bit dumb as far as multiplayer went, but comparing it to Doom and saying "shittier?"
I can't think of any FPS games on the PC at the time that gleefully let you steal a flying vehicle and dive-bomb tanks. I may be missing some, but UT2K4 added them later, BF1942 added them later, U2:XMC added them later, etc.
I played a ton of Halo on the PC. What it lacked in performance, which was quite a bit, it made up for in sticky-bombs, Warthog hit-and-runs and strafe runs. Plus it wasn't well received yet still had a large and healthy community, meaning better gamers likely went to other games, making it easy to dominate Halo. There was one PC exclusive level that was a long bridge with planes. There were absolutely rounds in which I'd grab a plane in the beginning and never get knocked out of it. Man, those were the days. |

Never mind that though, the point I want to make is that I read the spoilers. I read them because among the many I work with that are gamers, a few are very good friends of mine that are Halo fiends. Zealots even.
I never said that I was a good friend or a good person. Blackmail is gloriously fun sometimes. One of them deserves it, and I quote: "Unreal Tournament 2004? That had multi-player?" He's young.... Not sure what there was to "get" with Halo, it was a hugely popular FPS shooter for the original Xbox. There wasn't many good FPS games on console at the time so this got a lot of attention. By the time it made it to PC it was kind of underwhelming compared to other PC titles. |

Interesting it's a cut across the board and not just EB (like rumored). It's been months since I used my 360...
