Yet how many years now has it had 10 million plus subscribers? I played EQ. It wasn't fun. WoW was fun for a while (never more than 2 months at a time apparently though according to my subscription history). They changed a *lot* of tropes for MMOs, at the time for the better, and they succeeded because of it.
Now, within Blizzard DNA, the original WoW felt basically like Diablo 3 online, with all the ripping off that they did from Diablo 2 with skills and the skill trees. |

Of course, there's still my BL2 coop group moving at a snail's pace, TL2 and SoaSE Rebellion... it could be awhile. Nice to see Blizzard at least attempting to address some of their mistakes.
The real issue is still the drop rates designed around the existence of the AHs, as others have mentioned and that might never get fixed.

Now that they are all big and king kong with tons of shares and partners; they're getting ahead of themselves now with their big ego and it's taking a toll for the worst. I don't even think it's that. To an extent, constraints on time and money on a project encourage creativity. Blizzard has neither in any project it develops. So you get 3+ years of downtime for expansion packs that used to take 10-12 months and dull games like Diablo 3 that took 5-6 years of development (10 years if you count Blizzard North's original Diablo 3). I've literally been saying for years project management at Blizzard is non existent, nor innovative. I think they're one of the only dev studios out there that can take 5+ years a title, have it ship on 7-10 year old tech (because lets face it, D3 visually looks like a 2006 title) and still have a legion of diehard fanbois.
Personally I've never been able to understand it, nor have I ever been able to understand how WoW did as well as it did, EQ in a Warcraft skin with lots of handholding and very little depth. Yet how many years now has it had 10 million plus subscribers?
I've said it before but really, Blizzard to me is prolly the most overrated studio in the entire industry. |

It's funny because before they both hit I would never have dreamed that would be true. TL1 was good, but it was no Diablo 2. Oh how the tables have turned. Same here. I was actually in the pro-Diablo 3 camp until I played it to inferno. I never imagined Torchlight 2 could compete with Diablo 3, but I was wrong. |

I haven't played D3 and probably never will but I can affirm the greatness that is TL2. I took a break from Dishonored around 9PM last night to play a "little" TL2 and the next time I looked up it was 1AM. It is so damn hard to quit playing once you start it. |
