Wow, the weatherman didn't lie, as it's pretty chilly out there, so I've decided I will totally celebrate by making some chili. I mentioned to MrsBlue that the news that the international chili cook-off was permitting beans for the first time had me contemplating making a chili that included some of the stuff I never use, like beans, tomatoes, and onions. She just looked back at me and said "no." At least I don't have to worry that she's tired of the way I make it.

My wife won't let me put beans in the chili either...which is too bad because I learned this excellent recipe for black bean chili back in college while living in Phoenix, AZ. The really great part about it is that it is one of the "fire and forget" crock pot recipes where you throw it all together in the morning...come back from work/school in the evening and you have awesome chili. My second favorite recipe uses anise seed, and she won't go for that either. In fact, the most generic and mild bean-less chili I have in my recipe book is basically the only one she will go for. Frustrating to say the least.

YES! Go Mrs. Blue! If you have made something resembling chile with beans, you have only succeeded in making bean soup.
