Its not lame, and its supported in cannon. Its also not a get out of jail free card as the sinks are basically useless for a good amount of time after being vented which in turn means you are basically a toothless shooting duck in that time.

Right, the tabletop rules. MW4's is not implemented that way. Not even close.

You're the one saying it was supported in the source material, but in the source material it was a system that had weight and drawbacks so it wasn't an auto-include on every mech.

You can add and remove weapons, heatsinks, etc, after you have played long enough with trial mechs to unlock a real mech that you can customize (or you can buy one with real money for ~$7-20 depending on chassis).

Supposedly a coolant pod module like you are interested in may eventually be an option, but at expense of possibly taking up weight and probably taking a slot that could be used by other enhancement modules.

Huh? Who gives a fuck? Its an elegant solution to a balance problem. Another would be to allow heat intensive mechs to install more heatsinks. Does MW:O allow for this kind of customization?

Everything youve noted here sounds pretty damned good to me (apart from the trial mechs)

You want to remove your large laser and use a ppc? Too bad! The only weapon you can mount here is a laser!

You picked a bad example; lasers and PPCs are both energy weapons and share the same hardpoints. You could definitely replace a large laser with a PPC (provided you've got enough tonnage). Ballistic weapons and missile weapons, however, are distinct.

The controls also bug me, the little bubble with a line which I guess is supposed to simulate head tracking? Hate it. Just feels wrong.

Ironically that's one of my favorite features The bubble designates where your arm-mounted weapons are pointed, while the crosshair is for torso-mounted weapons. Arms track faster and have a wider firing arc than your torso, which makes sense from a simulation perspective and it is consistent with the table-top game.

Heatsinks don't work like tabletop where you could run in overheat and chance a shut down or negative effects, it builds up slowly and drops slowly.

Actually, if you overheat and shut down, jamming the "o" key turns you back on and at least lets you walk around. Shooting again shuts your mech down again though until you're cool enough. It saved my ass many a time just being mobile, or getting operational long enough to alpha one last time and kill someone.

I miss Shogo, and the Red Riot. Fun game to play on the LAN in between breaks from Total Annihilation

As far as MWO goes.. once all the content is in and it achieves the polish of a "League of Legends", it will be impressive indeed. The question is, will it survive the open Beta?

Yeah because MW4 was oh so simmy. Dizzy The movement feels right, weapon ranges are taken acount of, and really generally the team that works together wins every match. Just because laser shots don't randomly miss and you're not rolling dice against your monitor doesn't make it arcade.

MW4 was the least simmy one to date when it came out. They passed that torch on, it would appear. No one said it needed random dice roll misses.

I was hoping this game would be WoT with mechs. Its not.

The mechs I tried had a lot of restrictions on weapons. Certain areas could only one kind of weapon which is confusing to say the least. You want to remove your large laser and use a ppc? Too bad! The only weapon you can mount here is a laser! Didn't like picking my mech based on the weapons I wanted to use.

The controls also bug me, the little bubble with a line which I guess is supposed to simulate head tracking? Hate it. Just feels wrong. No matter how much I played I felt like the controls were an obstacle to enjoying the game.

Combat was dull in my opinion. Nothing feels satisfying. They try with armor that glows when hit and explosions but it just never seems to satisfy like hearing a cannon fire in WoT.

Doesn't get more arcade-like than Hawken.

They're both arcade, honestly. Hawken just does arcade better. This iteration of MW certainly feels the least simulation like of any MW game, but gotta cater to the lowest common denominator, especially when you're using a free to play business model.

This is the problem with using a known universe. The TT neckbeards always get up in arms that they didn't' make a turn based strategy game identical to the TT.

The game modes are way too sparse right now but this isn't an action game. It does require some hand eye coordination as it is a real time game, but only the most feeble have trouble landing shots. Calling it arcady is laughable.

I called it arcade because it's too easy to land shots. In a simulation, controlling and aiming is hard. In an arcade game you can easily mouselook-shoot with perfect precision. In this case you can shoot with perfect precision of 9 lasers that have perfect convergence on target. That's about as close to the definition of arcade gameplay (when compared to simulation) as you can get.

InBlack, it's already the most dumbed down MW game ever made. No need to add a get out of jail free for heat to make that even worse.

Sooo, there is no way to vent heat sinks like in the MW4? Thats kinda lame...

Can you fit more heatsinks on the mech though??

How many gameplay modes are there? Is it just team deathmatch 8 v 8? Is there a base capture mode, escort convoy or anything else to add more flavour?

Ill definitely be checking this out, but if it turns out to be another World of Tanks but with even fewer gameplay modes...argh...

Currently it's WoT standard mode, two bases, timed cap (although you can't reset the cap) or destroy all.

I'm sure when they add the realm/merc content that there will be other modes but it's a bit sparse atm.

I might have come across a bit harsh earlier, there's definitely plenty to like in the game itself, just the mech lab minmaxing and borked heat management for high heat/damage weapons is pissing me off atm.
