New NVIDIA Drivers

The GeForce Drivers Pagenow offers new WHQL-certified version 306.97 reference drivers for NVIDIA graphics cards. There are the recommended drivers for the Windows 8 launch and add support for the new GeForce GTX 650 Ti accelerators. They add: "This driver is also recommended for the best experience in the latest top PC games like Borderlands 2 and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria." Thanks HARDOCP.

Waaaah waaah 200MB. Stop whining. These driver packages support a vast array of features. There is no "inefficient coding" involved. You guys would shit bricks if they trimmed them down and cut support for a bunch of shit.

I don't give a damn about the size in mb, but NV's control panel has sucked ass for a long time. Slow, inefficient. Yes.

16. Nvidia could make some more of the fat optional. Oct 11, 2012, 15:32 hb3d

Please point out where exactly they are inefficiently coded.
I'm not bothered by the driver size, but the Nvidia Control Panel should be an optional install like some of the other driver components (3DVision, PhysX, Update) but isn't. The Nvidia Control Panel is fairly large (installer is ~30MB) for how little it does and is redundant for users who use Riva Tuner or one of its sponsored OEM versions from EVGA (Precision), MSI (Afterburner), Gigabyte, etc.

The next major release of the Geforce driver (310) is going to cut support for Series 6 and 7 GPU's, so we'll get to see how much smaller the driver is then.

Dude these things support hundreds of devices and countless features. Please point out where exactly they are inefficiently coded.

The previous drivers were 175MB, that's kind of a big jump. I bet it has to do with Win8 support.
Funny enough, from the previous set it jumped nearly 45MB. And that was adding Win8 support, so maybe they're just trying to compensate.

I believe the size increase is due to the fact that these are international drivers with support for all languages supported by Windows included.
