Dishonored Reviews

Dishonored is not due in North American stores until tomorrow, but true to the stealthy aspects of Arkane's assassination game, reviews are already sneaking out. The PC edition currently enjoys an 89 out of 100 aggregate score on Metacritic, and there individual reviews on 1UP, Computer and Video Games, Destructoid, Edge Online, The Escapist, Eurogamer, GameArena, GameInformer, GameSpot, GamesRadar, GameSpy, Giant Bomb, Hardware Heaven, IGN, Joystiq, Kotaku (thanks nin), PC Gamer, The PA Report, Polygon, Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Shacknews, Spong, and VG247.

It really surprises me that it's not higher in Steam's sales list. I wonder if a large number of Steam customers now just buy through GMG and thus aren't counted in the list.

I'd blame it on how little information there has been about the game, compared to other games coming out on the same day (XCOM), and a crowded market with BL2, TL2, and the WoW expansion.

Deus Ex: HR being a recent example.

Funny, I'd say DE:HR was one of the best games ever made.

You're fortunate to have that kind of taste.

Plus, you should really say it's one of your favorite games of all time. Claiming it's one of the best games ever made when it's clearly not is either disingenuous or egotistical.

This is simply not true. That's what I've been saying and what, honestly, you guys should already know.

Game reviews indicate that game reviewers like the game. That's all they indicate. Actually, in rare cases they don't even indicate that (when the journalist is forced to post a good review via management/publisher pressure).

I'm not telling anybody not to buy the game. I'm pointing out that these reviews are completely meaningless, as they always are.

On that we can agree, though I suspect for different reasons.

From your content-less responses, we can agree that you have nothing substantial to say on the matter. So, go ahead and snap up your $60 game because some guy on the internet told you to.

Keep digging that hole!

The game reviews are indicating a high level of quality, the people here are already interested in the game, and they might not see $60 as a huge investment. Why shouldn't they buy the game?

Blue, any chance you can highlight which reviews were done on a PC on lists like this?

Here's some pc menu options, if that helps...

It's pretty obvious you haven't thought about how selection bias applies to the game journalism profession.

And reviewers need games to be steam-lined, because they're idiots who know nothing about games...

Have you ever read any game reviews? What's a common theme? The game journalists have trouble with the difficulty. They have trouble with solving puzzles. Hell, they have trouble with jumping from one platform to another.

Just because you're paid to give opinions about video games doesn't mean you're good at them. Plus, reviewers respond positively to streamlining more than anything -- they have to play through the entire game and then write an article about it within the span of DAYS. There's a reason journalists have been caught in the past not even bothering to finish the game they're reviewing.

Didn't Arkane do Arx Fatalis? This one could be good. Need to see actual hands on posts before deciding.

Damn that's a lot of positive reviews, more shocking no negative reviews!
The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

@NIN Thanks again for the BL2 Golden Keys this weekend man!

No problem! Anytime one came up, I was pinging anyone in the steam friends list who was online. I managed to snag all 5 this weekend, so I'm up to 9...getting harder and harder to wait until 50 to use them.

Folks, between "Dishonored", "X-Com", & "Borderlands 2" we have a triple play of SOLID hits here. These games run the spectrum of genres & will be well worth any gamers time & money. Happy2

Guys, do you ever learn?

Of course the game is getting rave reviews. It's exactly the type of game that does so: one that pays lip service to classic games while still making the game, ahem, streamlined enough for journalists to understand and finish it. Deus Ex: HR being a recent example.

Now, I'm not saying this game is definitely bad (I haven't played it). But I know for a fact that these reviews are meaningless.
