Excellent review. Wow -- the definition of clueless. (the reviewer, I assume you are being sarcastic) Satire is lost on some people.
The dude says it's got 64 player multiplayer. He's obviously pulling things out of his ass.
Granted, it's a boring as f*ck video, but it's not serious. |

Hearing all the hype about how great the original was and how awesome this one is going to be, I was tempted to get it until I played the demo. Didn't you control larger squads in the original XCOM? In the demo you only have 4 people, and every game play video I've seen it's 4 people or 4 people + 1 robot. Is that it or do you get larger squads later in the game? I know there is more to the game than the combat, but there wasn't any of that in the demo and they haven't shown any of that in the videos (at least the ones I've seen, and I haven't read these reviews yet). Apparently the max is 6 soldiers on a misson. That and the lack of randomized maps are my biggest concerns. Firaxis says they believe that the majority of gamers never used more than six main soldiers in the original (from the beginning you could pack 14 troops in the Skyranger or 10 with a tank) and used the rest as fodder. That may be true but I agonized over each and every soldier. Even when the Avenger allowed me to field 22. To be fair it is a bit of a pain to move 18 soldiers and 2 tanks out of an Avenger. Not to mention moving them during a turn. |

That may be true but I agonized over each and every soldier. Even when the Avenger allowed me to field 22. I'd bring as many as I could at first, but once I got some reasonable soldiers going, I'd just bring them and one or two rookies who I'd try to level up (usually failed. Leveling in Xcom was typically just pure luck.)
I never brought max soldiers, as turns would take for fucking ever and a single playthrough would have meant like 5 weeks of playtime.
The only time I'd ever bring a ton of rookies is if I needed to capture an alien. Spot my badasses up in a defensible position, then zerg rush the alien I wanted to capture. Would usually kill 10 or 12 rookies, but since you were fielding 16 or so, what did it matter?
Capturing an alien is going to be seriously, seriously fucking hard in the new game, methinks...

I could still hold the box, gently open the box, and breath in the new manual smell. But for a non-Gamestop place to have a PC title in early is rather unheard of.
And I just clicked on the desktop short I had for the demo thinking it was for the full game (checking to see if it would update) and when the video's came up I about had a heart attack until I saw the 'Start Demo' button.

It's for sale at my local walmart too(ontario), the only difference is I don't have to pay for taxes from Steam which works out fine for me and I save $8 in taxes, which I can put towards gas in my car(especially at $1.30/L or $4.87/gal)
Oh, and by the looks of it for Asus Xonar(all or nearly all models) owners. There are new beta drivers up for Win8 which include a functioning audio control panel. |

I never played the original XCOM. I don't know why, maybe because when it came out in 1994 I was in high school at the time and didn't have a machine that could run it. I do likes me some turn based strategy/RPG though.

I've been trying to get a new Fallout New Vegas game going since I bought the DLC last year, but I keep getting distracted by new games. Borderlands just came out and I'm still deep into it. Dishonored is coming out, and it looks damn good too. Right now I'm thinking fuck it, I'll finish what's on my plate and get one or both of these later when their price comes down. |

I pre-ordered X-Com EU weeks ago, looking forward to tomorrow greatly.
Dishonored doesn't look like the second coming, but it looks ok. Steam Sale for me for that game.
Also, off topic:
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_eisenhower_quote.htm
The original passage, from a letter Eisenhower wrote to his brother Edgar on Nov. 8, 1954, went as follows:
Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.
ledhead1969, the original quote is even better, especially in today's context. Good old Dwight.
Of course this is no place for politics, etc. |
