Yep because one very wrong religious extremist speaks for every Christian. Like I said, attacks on religion are ok, unless it's Islam, but if you don't jump up and down for gay rights, you're an evil person.

It wasn't "one very wrong religious extremist," it was a very powerful state politician. You know, an elected official.

And, as Verno said, no one is asking you to jump up and down. Jesus Christ. They're having a fucking convention. They're not asking you personally to attend, or to pay for it, or to fucking approve. They're just having it. You're the one that keeps whining about things, then complaining that you're not whining, then complaining that you're perfectly ok with gay people you just don't think they should be allowed to congregate in groups of more than 100 if video games are involved and they want to discuss the fact that they're gay and happy about it.

And YES religious attacks are ok if it isn't Islam. WE ARE NOT AN ISLAMIC COUNTRY. Fuck, man, this is so hard for you. It isn't hypocrisy, it's wanting to not mock things that you are not. If I sit here and talk about how stupid you are you'd be offended, right? But you probably do something stupid fairly regularly and then chuckle to yourself about how stupid it was. Why is it ok for you to call yourself stupid but not ok for me to?

Because you're you and I'm not, right?
So why is it ok for us to bash Christianity and not Islam? Because we're Christian and not Islamic...
How is this a hard concept?

Except that concept doesn't make sense, basically, you're just shoveling shit to suit your idology and telling youself that to make yourself feel better when you bash the oh so evil church. If it's ok to bash Christianity, and really liberals do this on a regular basis anyway. Then Islam is fair game. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, if I want to say Islam sucks and I don't support their desire to build a victory mosque at the site of ground zero in NY for example. I can do that. I don't need to be from the village of fuckagoat iran to do so either.

Oh so now I don't think they should have the right to congregate? Dude ALL I said is I don't see the point of it. That's it. Stop trying to put words in my mouth.

My god liberals are idiots, that's right go cast another vote for Obama, 4 more years of a 10+% unemployment, and absolute whackjob foreign policy ought to do wonders for the US.

Oh god, you just brought up freedom of speech.
No one is telling you you can't make fun of Islam. No one in this country has ever done that. What we're saying is that it makes you a dick and probably has repercussions (like, say, if you're an actor, don't expect to ever work again.)

And for fuck'ssake I'm not a liberal. I've never once cast a vote for a democratic presidential candidate. But, while you're on it, bombing the shit out of everything is a whackjob foreign policy, our unemployment isn't 10%, and it was lowering taxes on the super wealthy in the late 70s that fucked us.

Lastly, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ARGUING? That you aren't a bigot, you just don't like that they're doing this, but you think they have a right to? Fine, you are a bigot, I don't think you should be saying the things you are, but you do have a right to. Weird.
You're definitely kind of a bigot, though. You keep bitching about gay people and Islam. That kind of makes you a bigot, you know, according to the definition of the word.

Not seeing the point of something = bitching apparently. Beamer just do the world a favor, go die in a fucking fire.

You keep bitching about christianty, bigot. now give me some excuse as to why your bitching is different. I'm sure it's coming.

You have what, 20 posts here? 20 posts dedicated to "not seeing the point?" You've kind of gone beyond that, right?

Where are my posts bitching about Christianity? I bitch about some christians tolerance of the world around them. If you want to call me a bigot bigot, I'll gladly concede that to you.

Watching some people jump through hoops so they can (unsuccessfully) avoid the bigot label, is pretty amusing, in a sad, how-intellectually bankrupt-can-they be sort of way.
"I'm not bigoted, I'm just actively speaking out about something that doesn't involve me at all. Also I don't care if they do it, even though the whole reason i entered the conversation was so i could complain about gay people doing stuff 'normal' people do, together."

Can you believe Prop 8 was allowed in the first place? In a state that's primarily democratic?!? I find that hard to believe.

If you understand anything about how money and religion play into politics, then its not surprising at all (hint: Just because you dont live in CA doesn't mean you can't influence CA's election, especially with citizens united, The mormon church had quite a stake in getting prop 8 to pass.)

I don't know how interested you'd be in it, but "8: A Mormon Proposition" is a documentary that does a good job exploring how the Mormon church was involved. Obviously there is more than any one factor, this is a big one though.

It's not about saying, "look at us, we are different". The message is "look at how the same we really are, so stop treating us differently". The media doesn't really help sometimes, nor do TV shows so you have to block that crap out.

We all separate into our "groups". Happens in school, work and social life, get over it and just accept not everyone wants to hang around certain people when they call others names and say stupid shit like "it's a fetish".

I suggest you stop making assumptions on things that aren't specifically stated and applying your own bias to them based on the opinion you've formed of me. I'll be happy to clarify, but you need to be willing to listen.

It's not a matter of assumptions when it's a bald read on what you are saying. And I shouldn't need to ask you to clarify every single thing you say, if what you are saying isn't what you mean, you should try focusing on actually saying what it is you do mean.

Black and White is the only concept your simple mind seems to be able to comprehend.

Ah, well, I'm glad that you've gone the insults route. Because otherwise I might have been tempted to take you seriously.

...strawman...

...that word -- I do not think it means what you think it means. Either that or you're twisting my words again just so you can use it. Are you going to find a way to fit "white knight" into the thread too? Don't stop at just one trendy Blue's News term...

If it means that you are creating a misrepresentation of my position in an attempt to counter my point(s), then I do know what it means. And look, that is what it means. Perhaps in your rush to try and appear clever, you forgot to actually make sure that you aren't wrong.

I know. Those are my words. That's my opinion on how effective demonstration is.

Of course those are your words. But in an argument, you use your words to counter the position of the other person. If you are using your words to counter a position the other person hasn't advanced, then you are being rather ineffective - at best - in the argument.

Are you seriously taking something out of second-hand context to imply that I'm against GaymerCon even though every other post where I've metioned it I've been for it?

No, I'm stating that your position is inconsistent. When your early introduction into a discussion is agreeing with the resident homophobe's assertion that this group's attempt at creating a LGBT-friendly event is a dumb idea, your later assertions that you don't have a problem with it are likely to be met with skepticism.

Bhruic, you are a fucking idiot and all you want to do is create a reason to argue. It's obvious you and I disagree on a lot of points -- why not leave it at that?

And here I'd already typed up a nice response before I got to this part. Taking you seriously indeed...

Leaving aside your childish insults, it is rather amusing that we disagree on lots of points, but I'm somehow "creating" a reason to argue. A sensible person would realize that disagreeing on lots of points is a reason to argue.
