Out of the Blue

There's good news for tackle football fans, as the NFL and the referees' union have reached a tentative deal, and tonight's game will be officiated by professionals, rather than the well-meaning but frightfully incompetent replacement refs. This might have impacted last week's outcomes if it had happened in time for those games, but either way, the number of crazy upsets make this an interesting season to have challenged folks to pick games. This is evidenced by Creston and Jivaro tying for best record for the week at 8-8 (imagine if we were using the point spread!), while Mag and I were 7-9, and Cutter followed two weeks of dominance with a disastrous 4-12. Here are my pre-caffeinated picks for this week: Ravens, Falcons, Patriots, Lions, Texans, Chiefs, 49ers, Seahawks, Cardinals, Broncos, Bengals, Packers, Bucs, Giants, Cowboys.

Wait a minute? The NHL is doing a lockout again? Didn't they just do that like two years ago?

Holy shit, it was 8 years ago. HAHA! I am so damn old, the years fly by now.

I feel bad for the Browns. They seem to be an actual decent team this year, they just can't pull it off (Eagles/Ravens/etc). Put up a good fight every time.

They play in the toughest division IMO. Every single team has a Top 10 defense. Hell, last year I think all 4 teams were in the top 5 at one point. The only reason Baltimore and Pittsburgh keep taking the division every year is because they have enough firepower on offense to come from behind in a hurry late in a game. If Cincy and Cleveland can mature their young offenses to be that stable and explosive that division would get whole lot less predictable. They have the talent, IMO, but they are young ATM.

Seriously - I love hockey but it pisses me off that these guys all behave like they are the NFL or NBA and not some niche sport with a very small and static audience. You are all overpaid - just play.

But they're not striking, they're locked out.

Owners want a significant rollback of their salaries...after teams spent the last few years signing players to long-term, ridiculous $100m+ contracts.

Don't get me wrong, there's definitely greed on both sides...but I wouldn't be happy taking a huge paycut just because the owners screwed up on the last CBA.

In the end, the fans are the only ones worth feeling sorry for.

Edit: not to mention the increase in average ticket prices they promised wouldn't happen during the last CBA negotiation (terrible around me, for sure), and the huge pay increase Bettman's seen since the last CBA.

NOOOOO!!!

Call Samsung and tell them what is going on and it is probably covered under the Capacitor Settlement Program.

Mine was clicking...

It isn't a TV. I guess nobody cares about the four billion people using Sammy 226 monitors.

Either that or PC users are smart enough to fix their own shit...

I would call anyway. I have the 226BW and they replaced mine last year.

The backlight on my $380 PC monitor is on the outs. Apparently, shockingly, Samsung used some shit capacitors on the things power supply and they have a history of going bad.

Time to put that one electrical engineering course I had into action and do some soldering!

It sounds intriguing. I wonder what his idea is. My thought is that is a kind of train in a mostly vacuum sealed tube to eliminate friction and maintain stability. That's the only way I see they'd be able to maintain the 900 mph speeds they want to attain safely. You'd think that something like this would be tried first on the east coast though, where the ground is much more stable. California just seems too unstable to develop such a system having multiple major fault lines running through it.

a vacuum along a thousand miles of tubing? unlikely. i think more likely he found a way to move air through the tube at that speed with reasonable safety, then you just drop a pod into the stream and whoof! off you go.

next year i think blue needs to run a bluesnews fantasy league!

It's rocked & kicked around through alot of earthquakes & aftershocks, needless to say it is harnessed to the wall & with a bead of silicon around the base.

I got this one bc at the time it was the top model for gaming and response time. AVSForums is where it is at. I think it is 6 years or older...now it is brand new again!

Samsung 40 inch tv went down, was "clicking" when it turned on and would take over a minute to continue clicking and then finally turn on. Looked it up, Samsung used crappy parts and offered a 1x replacement on those parts for free.

Called them 2 days ago. Guy came out today, took about 20 minutes to swap out some capacitors. BOOM. Just like new. 2 of the 5 were bulging and bad. Said the other 2 would have only lasted another year. Right on Samsung. Had my LCD monitor go down last year, same deal, they replaced that for free as well.

Very happy with their service.

Yeah, there were just a few games that were upsets last week. There were about 3 or 4 I was totally waffling on knowing they could go either way - same every week really - but stuff like the 49'ers, Saints, and Packers losing virtual locks are always a surprise. More tough calls to be made this week so let's go with...

Ravens, 49'ers, Rams, Falcons, Chargers, Titans, Pats, Jaguars, Broncos, Cardinals, Redskins, Packers, Eagles, Bears, Lions (if Stafford is back).

Aaand like clockwork, there goes the second half of the preseason.
