PopCap Dublin Closed

EA has shut down PopCap Dublin, leaving the studio's staff of 96 out of work, reports Develop. EA made cuts at PopCap last month, and at the time said they were in the process of "exploratory consultation" to determine the future of their Dublin operation, so there were warning signs this might happen. According to the report, a spokesperson said that the displaced staff are being provided with outplacement support, and are being offered jobs in other areas at PopCap, EA, and technology partners in Ireland.

Then again, PopCap Dublin isn't a major part of the operations... almost wonder if a lack of productivity or uncertainty over Ireland's corporate tax system came into play there.

Still puzzling, as Dublin usually is a major tech company's primary beachhead into a European presence. At least this is at least relatively defensible as a sound business strategy, especially since it seems like a few of these staffers will likely be relocated to PopCap's Seattle offices.
