Steam Greenlight Perspectives

Joystiq has some numbers presented by Valve during a panel discussion showing how the new Steam Greenlight program is being used so far. They show a slide saying that 949,156 users have cast 9,998,476 votes for 3,195 games submitted for Greenlight consideration. 1,110 of those games have been banned either for being inappropriate or being jokes, and that there are now about 800 "Legitimate, Publicly Visible Items" remaining for consideration in addition to the 10 games that have already been approved. There's also an interesting article on Kotaku Australia written by the developer of Zafehouse: Diaries, which is currently art of the program, giving a perspective on this from the other side of the fence, describing the exciting, frightening, and "confronting" nature of the process.

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. I'm sure the 10 that were Greenlit did not make it all the way to 100% before Valve approved them.

I wonder why they have removed the voting percentages that they used to have when you vote for a game.
Probably so people don't get upset when valve arbitrarily changes the numbers. Remember, they said there's no fixed amount and it would depend on how many games and people voted and valve said they would be adjusting it.

I dunno, some of the stuff I've seen while browsing through has some interesting concepts, and quite a few of the games are touted as freeware. Ostensibly, I guess, to get the names of the devs out there in the market.

It doesn't cost anything but a bit of time to sieve through what's up there and if it turns out a few good games, I'm willing to pitch in... =)

I've voted for one game so far: Pinball Arcade. Too much of the rest looks like shovelware.
You vote for a Pinball game and call the rest shovelware... rrrrright?

Look up some reviews of Pinball Hall of Fame, which Pinball Arcade is a remake of. It's hardly shovelware.

Or, for that matter, they can look up the promo video on Steam Greenlight, which looks quite impressive (in fact, it's even sharper than the PS3 version of the game, which is pretty solid).

Most of it is shovelware.

Voted for The Pinball Arcade as well, along with about a dozen additional games... but most of the others were a case of me having to actually hunt out decent-looking games.
