There's a craft fair that hits our area a couple of times a year that we will visit today (we visited it last week too, except we had the date wrong, so we were the only ones there). As usual, one stop will be at the salsa guy to pick up my "I ate the ultra-hot salsa and lived" sticker (one needs to go for the glory where one can). This is actually the one hot food moment where I can outshine MrsBlue, as even though my wife is one of the only people I know with a greater tolerance for spiciness than myself, she is unwilling to try that salsa anymore after it gave her an instant case of the hiccups a couple of fairs ago.

Helium Shortage

I stopped buying helium balloons a couple of years ago when I heard this. Once it's gone, it's gone and there isn't any other reasonable way of getting any. For some of its uses there are no reasonable alternatives. It's kind of insane to use it in balloons if you think about it: single use and non recyclable. Would H2 be a decent alternative? Yes, I know about the Hindenburg, but the amount of H2 in a party balloon is much smaller. Would it be dangerously explosive or just a firecracker? Demonstrations of H2 detonations I've seen have not been impressive and only mildly dangerous, IMO, as opposed to something like gasoline. It would probably mean that balloons would all have to be mylar though. H2 would leak too quickly from latex.

I'm trying a new chili recipe today (a variation of one from ATK) that turned out bad when I first tried it last week. I think I scorched it and it tasted awful. But even though scorched I could tell it was way too mild so today I'm adding more super hot chipotles and a few more teaspoons of cayenne. There was only one time I ever made chili too hot - I called it Angry Chili because I went and made it mad. So I'm tempting fate again.
