Diablo III 1.0.5 Notes; PTR Coming

The Diablo III Website announces Blizzard will soon be launching a PTR (Public Test Realm) for Diablo III, allowing the chance to check prerelease versions of upcoming changes to their action/RPG sequel. They accompany this with the release of PTR Patch 1.0.5 Notes for the next patch for the game, offering details on the new Monster Power system, the new Infernal Machine event, and gameplay changes, which include changes to monster damage and defensive abilities, two new shrines, diminishing returns on crowd control effects, class balance tweaks, and more.

Got a profile link? My main character is a monk myself, so just curious to see another self founder's gear.

Here's mine btw: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/GunnersDream-1109/hero/4018642

I can run act 2 pretty easy with that gear for my monk, so I swapped out a nice damage boost, all resist, spirit regen legendary helmet that I was using while I was initially struggling. (And yes, the legendary was self found too.)

I anticipate that within two weeks, complaints will begin about the loot quality drops in TL2, and the ability to go "buy out" the RNG will be sorely missed.

That will not happen and I wager an eBet.

This is abundantly clear given the fact that you almost never find any items on your own that are actually any good.

You do realize that people found all the items in the auction house... right? If you farmed late game inferno, you would have found plenty of good items... but you didn't.

I played 90+ levels of D2 (via forced online DRM) and have 200ish hours of D3. You can say what you want but there was NOTHING fun or exciting about waiting for SoJ's to drop in diablo 2 so you could actually trade for an item you wanted. I've found plenty of "my own gear" in diablo 3 because I don't have the attention span of a goldfish. My inferno level monk is entirely geared with stuff I found on my own, mostly while playing my WD. I didn't need the items to be orange or green to make myself feel "special" about them.

Face it, you tried playing a farming game and didn't want to actually have to farm to get good stuff.

The loot drops in TL2 are NO different. There are more affix tags for items in TL2, yes. Does that make it better? No. More diverse tags means you have to get even luckier to get the combination of tags that makes an item useful for your character... doesn't it? Sounds to me like after ~20-30 hours of torchlight you will hit the SAME wall for item drops as people do in D3.

If you DO touch it, that means you are changing the bell curve for your equipment upgrades, and basically removing thejoy of finding any upgrades from the realm of possibility.

Yup, two characters restarted with no auction house whatsoever and I currently have them both in act 2 inferno. I probably find one upgrade every few hours still. (3 legendaries since 1.04.)

If you want the best you can get in the shortest amount of time, use the AH. If you enjoy finding your own upgrades, don't (some of my friend's refer to me as "Amish" for not using the AH.)

Why don't you back up that (dubious) statement with some evidence? Oh, this is gonna be good...

Here's the deal, descender. D3 is designed for use with the auction house. This is abundantly clear given the fact that you almost never find any items on your own that are actually any good.

If YOU had actually played Diablo 2, then you would remember the feeling of finding good items on your own and equipping them. If you had also actually played Diablo 3, then you would remember that this is no longer the case.

In the first 2 hours of Torchlight 2, I found more items that were interesting than I found in all the time I played Diablo 3. Face it, Diablo 3 is trash.

I fear the general public is looking for a nostalgic experience that they never actually had.

Well, I have not used the RMAH at all, and only tried (and failed) to sell my junk on the GAH for like 20k a piece. Yet I've completed Inferno, no skipped elites, on my WD, who can comfortably farm Act 3. Still, it was post patch 1.04, and my gear looks like the gear of somebody who has nothing from the AHs, it's horrible.

Accomplishing the same(or comparable) feat in D2 was far, far more enjoyable and I actually saw Uniques/Legendaries in that game without 400+ hours of farming at max MF. I have found 1 Legendary, level 51 shield, since 1.04.

For the record, I didn't D2JSP or even trade for any gear(aside from just sharing drops with my 3-4 coop partners) in D2 either, but I'm guessing I'm a bit of anomaly.

Let's not even get into the offline/modding that were done with D2 that truly made the game enjoyable to me. That's where D3 is really screwed in my opinion. Blizzard might eventually tweak drops enough to make the game fun for the majority of players, but it's already over to me, for the most part. I beat Inferno on my WD, my Barb and Monk currently lack the gear to progress, and I probably won't have it without a few more hundred hours of farming, since I avoid the AHs.

That's where most people feel D3 has failed, whether or not the drop QUALITY is truly because of the AH or whatever(not drop rates, drop quality), it certainly SEEMS as though the AH has led D3 to have boring and extremely, extremely rare loot, for the actual good/great drops you need in the game.

All of that said, hopefully patch 1.05 is better, but their patch notes indicate they don't even grasp the basic problems most people have with the game.

ps. I died for the first time on my Berserker in TL2 this morning. Hard Difficulty, level 15. Killed by some sort of swarming DoT wolves and spider combo with some charging Yetis or whatever, they were disarmingly cute.

Also quite irrating that "people" can't get their head around the fact that D3 is online only BECAUSE of the auction house, so if I touch it or not, I'm handcuffed to thier online only DRM.

I play games like Diablo 1/2/3 to find my OWN loot, don't care to trade or use an auction house so I don't want to be punished for it existing. If the game is balanced right, I should get *good* loot and gold to get me through the story. D3's loot is OK, not very exciting, does not keep me coming back for more. D1/D2 did.

may your RMAH eat you from within in hell

I anticipate that within two weeks, complaints will begin about the loot quality drops in TL2, and the ability to go "buy out" the RNG will be sorely missed.

Heck if I released one of these loot farming games, the first week or two would purposely have ridiculous items dropping to get people excited about the game.

No one has the patience to go farm for items anymore. If they did they wouldn't have cried about the way items dropped in D3 (basically the same as D2... the way torchlight does it is completely different). They would have been able to ignore the existence of the AH, because it didn't effect your gameplay AT ALL unless you chose to allow it to. You could have farmed for equipment, like many people are still doing in that game... like EVERYONE will have to do in TL2.

When the bell curve for upgrades gets to 10+ hours for your character, then let's see how everyone feels about all the flashy BS on the items.

I prefer the skill trees and ability systems in TL2, but again people forget about the permanence of choice and how much they "love choice but don't actually want to deal with the consequences". I guarantee one of the first community requests will be for a full respec option, basically trivializing the permanence of skill progression just like D3.

I don't know, I just wasn't bowled over when playing this yesterday... time to go back and play more I guess...

I'll take a look at D3 again when they put out the SP (OFFLINE) Mode Patch. Never happen you say? That's OK, we got GW2, TL2, and BL2... all set.

Oblivious.

If they are going to go to that point then they might as well make the items as they drop off the boss already identified.

Anything they do now will be knee jerk Reactions to try and counter TL2

The RMAH has done nothing but inspire Gold farming Chinese to exploit the game to its fullest to try and make money. Too late for poor blizz. D3 is now a passing ship in the night.

The worst part is that he gets killed by the Butterfly Lady, easily the worlds most annoying and forgettable plot device villain. They hired some of the best VA talent in the world at great expense then gave them a Metzen script that was equal parts RL Stine and Forgotten Realms.

Pretty much, big meh. TL2 is everything that Diablo 3 failed to be. The story is totally forgettable but I'd rather have a forgettable story than the linear dreck that we were force fed in Diablo 3.

Of course D3's portrayal of one its main characters and a pivotal event involving them was the lamest thing I've seen. (Spoilers follow:)

Seriously, was anyone else as hacked off as I was at how pathetic the way Deckard Cain dies is? A main character only gets a pathetic in-game cutscene death from what I've seen on youtube and heard from others. They effectively ended the Diablo franchise when they killed Cain -- and in such a pathetic way.

I can't hear them over the sound of Guild Wars 2!

So many great games being released right now. D3 is not one of them.

Also, PC gaming is well and truly alive and rocking.

Blizzard will stop at NOTHING to continue to press on with the RMAH spine, that is the backbone of Diablo 3. Nata, Niet. They have to continue, they have done so with the first 4 patches, they continue to slap you in the face with no legendaries on the ground, not even with a base of %308MF like I currently have.

It is insulting, and hurtful, because we loved Diablo 1 and 2. Blizzard came , and went. Karma is going to be a bitch for them

Ya, I think it's just hard for many of us as gamers to give up on Blizzard when they gave us some great products. You have to hope that somewhere their original gaming company soul still exists.

But, as you said, I think that the real Blizzard has left the building.

the respectable silence, over at Runic, not to bash D3, AND deliver such awesomeness with TL2, speaks Volumes! This is a pivotal moment in ARPG history, David and Goliath, in the flesh, my friends.

to boot, I just know, TL2 will have epic DLC , and stellar updates, and rewarding style, far far more than Blizzard's current nightmare of a condescending experience ever will be.

Good on you, Runic. Unbelieveable really. Well done. Long live your dev team, & personnel in charge,

I think I'll send you guys a box full of polish donuts and pierogis.

Shame shame on you Blizzard, may your RMAH eat you from within in hell. But you know, in all fairness, the concept of asking for extra money to award more in the game, is ok, but the way it was done with Diablo 3, it is just really insulting to gamers that have integrity and principle.

I think people are a bit too emotional about it, sure it's had it's issue, but for a one shot purchase of a game I thought it was worth it.. It's not an MMO and it can be picked up anytime and it's not charging you money every month..

Personally right now I'm in a Borderlands 2 mood.. I bought Torchlight 2, but don't think I'll play it anytime soon. Sometime in the future if I feel like playing Diablo III I will.
