Bohemia Interactive Studios CEO Marek Spanel has posted a statement about the arrest of a pair of BIS employees for espionage (thanks Computer and Video Games). Here's their explanation of what happened:

We can confirm that two Bohemia Interactive employees, our colleagues and friends, were arrested during their holiday trip to Lemnos. They visited the island with the sole purpose of experiencing the island's beautiful surroundings.

Since its establishment in 1999, Bohemia Interactive has created games based only upon publicly available information. We always respect the law and we've never instructed anybody to violate the laws of any country. The same is true for Arma 3.

Currently, all our effort goes towards supporting the guys over there, as well as their friends and families affected by this difficult situation. We sincerely hope that this is an unfortunate misunderstanding of their passion as artists and creators of virtual worlds.3

And here I thought, until now, that BIS and its games are very popular amongst military people.
Some militaries even invite those guys to record sounds of their vehicles and weapons and make detailed pictures of planes, choppers, vehicles, weapons and uniforms.

Maybe they havent realized yet who they arrested. Or maybe Turkey invited them first.

And Cutter quite a poignant statement considering that the 9th person has died in Guantanamo Bay just this week, having never been formally charged or given the chance to stand in trial for anything.

Both Greece and the Czech Republic are part of the European community. It should settle itself because Greece can't afford bad press with Europe. When traveling in Egypt we were warned to be sure not to point our cameras in certain directions, or to take pics of monuments from certain directions as the military would get upset. They were most likely taking pics and notes, and some military or cop, might be the same there, noticed and thought I could catch a terrorist, then they realized pops gamer and can not look bad in the press. BIS should be on the horn to State Dept, calling local officials, raising hell. As screwed up as Greece is they could be stuck awhile. Of course the judge may just be waiting on a envelope of paper products. Wish them luck, at least it was not Middle East. Hope it is fixed fast. Lee

I don't think that will help Greece. Greece has a systemic failing of all financial state run institutions, and not because of debt, but because of absolute and total corruption in the high echelons of power. You can not find a single not corrupt politician in Greece. That's because the high echelon consists of only 2 large families that ruled since the end of World War 2. Heck, Greece is not a democracy, it is a meritocracy (Where the merit is being "physically related" to a politician)

The Greeks are having huge issues these days with their inability to fund the socialist programs. You would think with all the negative press they are getting they would drop the issue and try to get these people out of country fast. Of course that is why the Greeks are in this kind of trouble, they don't think.

Meh, they should mellow out now- Germany just green-lighted the endless printing of Euros. ...and with that ol' helicopter Ben should be cranking out some more Benjamins hot off the silicon soon. If I were a Chinese person I would be royally pissed beyond consolation at this point.

It is little known but Greece is one of the most militarized country in Europe. Should really have invested all that money in the economy...
