Today was another triumph in our war against high fructose corn syrup, as not only did we find more Mexican coke at the supermarket (as well as sugar-sweetened Mexican Sprite and Fanta), we also found a single 12-pack of throwback Pepsi. We were concerned the Pepsi may have been old stock from a forgotten corner of the store-room, but it has an early 2013 sell-by date, so it seems another run of this limited edition soft drink may be in production.

I personally only drink Sierra Mist natural anymore, on the off chance I drink soda. I think we'll be seeing more and more sugared foods as this years corn crop has been pretty devastated. HF Corn Syrup prices are shooting up. They are slaughtering a record number of cows this year because they don't have the corn to feed them (do note that Cows can barely make a year living on corn as it is.) I've started seeing cow-skin rugs and blankets at big-box stores here in NY. Gas prices are rising in large part do to the corn prices as well because of ethanol. Its times like this that make you realize just how much corn we grow in this country (and how small a part of that crop is edible), and just how many things we use it for.
