Out of the Blue

MrsBlue is off to her new job today, and with no ties remaining to Disney, I no longer have a potential conflict of interest to disclaim related to reporting Disney-related game news. With their disinterest in the PC platform there was nothing to be conflicted over during that span anyway, but it makes life easier for everybody if there's no potential for that to worry about. She is back with a more traditional book publisher now, so there is no gaming connection to acknowledge going forward.

R.I.P.: British director Tony Scott dead after jumping from California bridge.

Links: Thanks Ant and Acleacius.
Play: Meadow Adventure.
Decision 2: New City.
Links: 19 Asian Tattoo FAILS.
Stories: A 63-year-old engineer is Japan's 'last ninja'.
Science: Microbes manipulate your mind.
Coffee good for you, but it's OK to hold back.
Thomas Kuhn: the man who changed the way the world looked at science.
Media: Metal Gear Solid meets Nyan Cat. And Making of...
Close Call at a Rally Race.
The director's cut of real life in NYC.

Sorry but suicide is a selfish cowardly act - especially as his twin sons are only 12.

Maybe he didn't want them to go through watching him slowly die but to rip himself out of their lives will do way more harm in the long term.

Having had at least 4 people (that I can think of, off the top of my head) in my family die of cancer, I wouldn't blame any of them for wanting a quick death over slowing and painfully wasting away in front of those you love...

HOWEVER, I can certainly see choosing to die on your own terms rather than be wasted away by disease.

Exactly. My father spent the last two months of his life in a hospital bed. I'm not even sure my step mother told him he had cancer, since we were so focused on trying to get him out of that bed and back home.

We're inherently selfish creatures and maybe some people would not want their children to see them rapidly degenerate into a debilitated husk of their former selves. I think robbing people of the chance to say goodbye sucks but I can understand the motivation.

edit: ah you edited.

Wow this is in such poor taste I am amazed someone was dumb enough to think it, let alone type it and post it. I hope you get banned for this kind of shit posting.

What a wonderfuly Christian thing to say! He killed himself and he is going to Hell!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHH!

So many people giving other people a bad rap. I believe in a God, but I don't believe in hell. Hell was a purposeful mistranslation designed to give the Church an axe to hold over the "faithful." I can't believe how many people swallow everything they are told with no desire to find out if it is even true.

Suicide? Not much of a fan myself - so many people take the easy way out instead of toughing it out - HOWEVER, I can certainly see choosing to die on your own terms rather than be wasted away by disease. It's hard on you, it's hard on your family. Death is certainly never easy on them, but a quick death might at least let them grieve and move on.

Well, it's not that I put a whole lot of stock in SC's often crazy ramblings, but if one person writes it than a dozen more may be thinking it. I just wanted to be clear that I was not judging or blaming this guy.

Such a shame. Suicide can seem like such an enticing proposition - the ultimate escape - to someone in pain, but if only he had tried talking with someone, things may very well have gone differently. Very sad situation; here's hoping his family can pull through the pain of knowing that a loved one is dead by his own hand. That shit HURTS; a lot more than if he were to die in an accident or of natural causes I think.

its all too easy to blame, thats the default mode for human society, its pre-programmed and rote, you can even say robotic.. but this guy might have been dying of cancer, very painfully

until you are in his situation, you really just dont know

so what is his obligation to his "loved ones" if they want him to suffer constant agonizing pain just so he can be around for them to "love"? ever thought about that?

or is it just too difficult to resist the reflexive finger pointing, like your good buddy Anointed Sword?

you see, you are both acting the same way... but for some reason its more "appropriate" for you? bullshit you fucking hypocrites

so go ahead and call me a troll, put me on "ignore"

you dont want to hear this

you cant handle the truth

Whoa there partner- where the hell did that senseless angry rant come from? I am not judging anyone, especially since I was at a point in my life not too terribly long ago when I thought about doing the same thing. Trust me, I know all about dying inside - if anything I can relate all to well to this situation, and I feel terribly both for him and his family.

I don't disagree with suicide, though it's not like I advocate it. It's been accepted and respected in many cultures down through the ages. It's only the Xtians who - once again - said it's bad like everything else and try to guilt and scare people away from it. Particularly as it applies to illness/disease. Better to go out on your own terms than waiting while your body literally breaks down and it's all just needless suffering. I simply hope they can find the peace in death they could not find in life.

Indeed. That was in terrible poor taste and no better than those Westboro lunatics who go to funerals to protest against the grieving families.

And he seems to have finally been banned. At least a good thing comes from this.
