| For all who still say Hellgate is crap : now after you played D3 go play HG for a bit (preferably if you still have a high level char) and then tell me which one you like more |

And truth be told, regardless of how horrid H:L was at least they were trying something different that ultimately failed.
D3 isn't something different, it isn't even something equal to what we had, in fact is less than what we had before. |

You know, everyone rags on Hellgate: London but...
I played it longer than I played Diablo 3. It was a mess to be sure, but I got marginally more gameplay out of it than D3.
Hell, I got more gameplay out of the ATROCIOUS Too Human than I got out of Diablo 3. |

Oh and Senior Technical Artist Harrington would like to *LIKE* that comment more than once... Good thing they don't sound too butthurt and bitter about their own failures. He was responsible for Hellgate: London and criticized us!! At least he was trying something new and interesting instead of failing to replicate a dog simple franchise with a mountain of resources and unlimited time. |

I dont understand how they needed Blizzard for Hellgate London when they had EA's money?? No they fucked up Hellgate London all by themselves, even the best ARPGs fail hard when they are packaged into an MMO formula. |

It was just much more subtly told, together with the brilliant cutscenes it allowed the player to sort of "connect the dots". Who is Tyrael? Is he even a force of good? What is the origin of the Sin War? Pentagrams!

Torchlight was the closest thing to cool that they could come up with and even then it was not a class a title. Torchlight was a perfect example of how much a game can gain when you have only a very limited budget. You have to focus on core features and make them work as perfect as possible. |

Oh and Senior Technical Artist Harrington would like to *LIKE* that comment more than once... I cant read the interview as incgamers is down at the moment but that comment from Jay is uncalled for, its also very honest as it shows how arrogant that asshat really is and how greatly he cares about the legacy of the series. Basically the article said that Blizzard lost a lot of ARPG experience and knowledge when it canned Blizzard North, and that the Irvine/Blizzard South people had different priorities and ideas of what would make D3 fun and that came through in all the bitching and complaining hardcore series fans are going on about.
He also said D3 was very different than what the original plan for D3 was, and that he feels sad that people are frustrated and that Blizzard is on the slow boat to "we can't hear you!" ville, hurt a little that they didn't care much about what made the first two Diablo games so much fun, and just a little vindicated that players seem to be backing his idea of what made ARPGs fun.
So yeah, the reactions are a little over the top and I would say very much so uncalled for. |

Beamer wrote on Aug 19, 2012, 20:03: Man, so you're blaming Roper when he was just one of the "originators" (all of whom come from Blizzard North) yet not the Lead Designer or the Game Visionary.
You guys need to stop associating "public face" with "guy making every single decision." Roper likely did make all the business decisions, but that's not what doomed the game. What doomed the game is that it wasn't fun. Blame the Lead Designer and the "Visionary" for that. Yeah... I had an interesting conversation with Roper about Hellgate (If you move in the right, rather arcane, circles it's hard not to bump into him). I won't go into it because it was a private conversation, but it was highly illuminating.
However, for people who hate his guts, I do have a picture of him dressed up like a whore though for your amusement.

| Diablo 3 is garbage. The only people who aren't willing to admit it are people who loved Diablo 1 and 2, therefore waited forever for Diablo 3, and now simply can't psychologically accept how awful it is, their brains live in denial. |
