On the Amiga the bombing run was from above, like Raiden, and the strafing was isometric, like awesome! Both very cool. The mission structure and persistence were very cool. It did a lot of things very well and very modern.
I think done properly the gameplay will still hold up. Pirates! Was even older (And yes, deeper) but the mini games mostly held up very well in the remake. The dancing was a bit boring but hey, so were aristocratic women of the time!
Even if you don't like it, a successful port will surely lead to someone taking on ICFTD and Rocket Ranger!

Wings was quite fun, even if terribly easy. The 'dogfighting' parts basically consisted of you continuously turning until you were back on the enemy's tail.
That said, the other missions were pretty cool for their time, and the diary entries and such were fun as well. But this was... what, 25+ years ago? That 'classic' gameplay will probably get pretty boring now, as every mission basically falls into three templates: Dogfight, bombing run and strafing run (which is virtually identical to the bombing run, but you fire guns instead of drop bombs.)
I guess I may toss a fiver in there.

Oh fuck yes, loved Wings, one of the best Amiga games and the best, IMO, Cinemaware game ever made, sliding past Rocket Ranger and It Came From The Desert 1 and 2 by a bit. Reading the diaries was amazing and it had some somber and sad bits like our company's sergeant being gunned down by a German biplane or when we go out to hunt a German ace that makes a habit of destroying ambulances.
I do hope to see Rocket Ranger and It Came From the Desert (1, not the semi-sequel) later.
And that accordion song on the diaries was kickass. |

| It has HD graphics and HD sound! I think on that note alone, not going to support this. Getting tired of the HD phrase that pays. |

Wings had quite a somber vibe to it for a game of its time, was not some 'your a super soldier, kill evil germans!' - pre-nazi
The whole tone was great. Don't forget, Defender of the Crown |

I think Wings is a good pick for a reboot of an amiga flight/flying action game.
But there were many other great titles that would be better served as a reboot. Elite, Superfrog, Another World, Lemmings, Syndicate come to mind. Syndicate got a faddy lame-ass reboot, deserves so much better such a shame. |

| hmmm It came from the desert or Rocket Ranger would have been a better choice, the flight combat in Wings would need a complete overhaul not just an HD update. |
