Diablo III 1.04 This Month

The Diablo III Website has the first of the promised updates on the upcoming version 1.04 patch for Diablo III, which they say "is still a few weeks away," though they later specify the fourth week of August. The post gives an overview of things they are changing, including removing the averaging of gold find for a group, shrinking the gap between normal monsters and Elite packs (making normals less of a joke and elites less of a nightmare), dealing with some of the more difficult affixes, addressing the insanely small chance of finding anything useful, making two-handed weapons viable, getting rid of enrage timers, improving future legendary items, and finding ways to make some unused skills more useful and/or appealing. Here's the summary:

These are really just a few of the topline systems changes we’ll be making in 1.0.4, and we hope you’re looking forward to them as much as we are. We’ll of course have a lot more info coming at you in the weeks ahead on Legendary items, classes and more, as well as some interviews we’ll be holding shortly before the patch goes live – which, by the way, is currently targeted for the fourth week of August.

Also, this patch includes changes in the RMAH. People from countries outside America and Europe can buy unlimited access to the player database via the RMAH. WIN!
Consoles? I owned two: a Pong clone and an Atari 2600. And that's it.

How fucking dare you? Seriously, what is this?

You come on this board, in this space, and claim to be enjoying yourself in a game that we don't approve of? Fuck you. Fuck everything you stand for. This game didn't meet the expectations of the thin edge of the wedge, and for that, it's a failure. Despite the fact that it set record sales, and despite the fact that enough people are still playing to bitch in an epic fashion, you're WRONG WRONG WRONG.

And you're a horrible person for having a good time with it, you filthy fucking casual. Your entertainment is invalid. Your joy? Non-existant. From now on you'd better fucking check in with us on how to feel before you feel it, lest you post something here that we don't like. THEN... THEN you will see what a stern talking to really is.

Bravo Clap

Filthy fuckin' casuals.

I love how people were saying this game was dead. I find it funny because of the actual data that we have on this company. Blizzard has showed support for their games second to none. Take away all the class warfare- rich versus poor- arguments and you have a company that supported D2 for years! Name another company (not community patches) that supported a game as long? The list is real short...

I also find it funny that people say this game has zero content after you beat the game. Clearly, you have never played other action RPGs or...I will keep the negative thoughts to myself. With that said, more content will come via patches and boxed expansions (just like most every other game in this category).

Why is it too little...too late? Blizzard will get this game up to par long before an expansion will come out. It isn't like you have to pay a monthly fee or by another copy to try out the new patches...

If you look at it from a perspective of it not being Diablo, then IMO D3 was a good game. I put 150+ hours into it, I feel I got my moneys worth.

HOWEVER!

This isn't some other game, this is Diablo. I expected more.

I did not expect to hit the lvl cap before finishing the game, making it feel like the game was over before it actually was.

The itemization fucking sucks. Plain and simple. Seeing as the loot hunt was Diablos claim to fame, that's really ridiculous. It's been said a million times, I'm not going to elaborate.

The story was fucking retarded. Nephelim? You are called this for the entire fucking game and they don't even explain why. Some of the cheesiest movies from the 80's have better dialog. Cracking stupid jokes the entire time didn't help either.

Cool... I thought all the Kool Aid drinkers here on Blues had been cowed into silence! Jester

First, this Blizzard is not the Blizzard that made (or supported) Diablo II. Sure, it's the same name... but a lot of the creative talent has left, and the outlook of the studio has become solidly Activision. So your appeal to the past is worthless.

Second, the complaints about "endgame" have nothing to do with an actual end (and post-game content) and everything to do with the replay-ability of the game. Previous Diablos were fun after game end specifically because the item grind encouraged replays. Because Blizzard marketed this game as a quasi-MMO and designed it around their AH, the one feature that gave Diablo games longevity was replaced with MMO-style grinding for gold or useless items to buy your needed items with (or short-cutted by buying with real money... which removes all of the appeal of the previous games!).

So, despite all fanboi protestations to the contrary, Diablo III has been a bucket-o-fail from a purely game-centric perspective. And hopes for a radical change in a month require you to ignore the fact that they would have to change the entire design of the game to accomplish this...

Eh, i meant because there is 0 content in this game once you beat it there is no reason to play it now with these changes looming. I was making a snide jab at the fact that they can't patch that in retroactively. Obviously badly worded ;p

People did tell them so already, many times.

Too many times. Sigh. All for a shiny that didn't even last that long to entertain.

Too litte, too late.

  • They need to immediately raise the level cap to 99.

  • Then re-level all lvl 61, 62, and 63 items to span over lvl 61-99.

  • Then they need to return to permanent skill choices to give a reason to build specialty characters.

  • Plus they need to allow stat point distribution and make stats about 10 times more important, so as to make gear not matter as much.

  • Oh, and making gear not be totally boring might help...

Well, if they're adjusting the range of stat rolls and adding new affixes, they can't apply that retroactively... To do so, they'd have to go through your equipment and roll everything again. That actually might even make some/most items worse, which of course people would complain about further. They do say they're changing how some special damage effects (bleeding, etc.) work, so those will of course be changed on existing items. That is the sort of thing they did with attack speed, where they changed on a basic level how that attribute works, or specifically its magnitude.

Love how they ignore the issue that if they plan to change the item balance without retroactive change there is no reason to play the game, at all.

I guess retroactive change is only allowed if it's a nerf.

I think the idea here was the attack speed nerf was an across the board change. The legendary changes are a bunch of new affixes, so you can't really retroactively add those.

What I think would be great though, is if they gave you a one time option to re-roll its stats based on the current list.

I only have two legendaries though, so it doesn't really matter much to me.

This is their way of realizing that their design philosophy for a Diablo title turned in to a fucking catastrophe and are trying to put a band aid on a gun shot wound.

I mean, most of the issues which they've been required to change or are in the process of changing should have never been issues in the first place and the 1.04 state of the game should have been what went live with the product. It wouldn't have been 'great' but it feels like the players have simply been used as a beta test for nearly five months.
