Free WOOT DLC for Magicka Released

Paradox Interactive announces the release of WOOT, new DLC for Magicka that's now automatically available for free to owners of the action/adventure game, adding four new PvP maps, three challenge maps, new items, and more. Here's word:

Paradox Interactive have good news and bad news. The good news is that an all-new DLC pack, entitled Magicka WOOT, has been released , adding lots of new maps, items, and spells to the Magicka pantheon. The bad news is that the guy in charge of collecting money won’t leave the TV because apparently there’s a major sport event on, so Paradox has no choice but to let everybody have the new DLC completely free of charge. Upon reflection, maybe that’s only bad news for Paradox.

Magicka: WOOT allows players to join their favorite robed rapscallions as they make their way to a wizarding competition, only held once every few centuries in the land of Midgard. Aspiring sorcery athletes can face each other in the “Olympus Onslaught” PvP maps, trying to out-survive one another in the ever-changing Elemental Roulette arena, or try to stave off trench-foot in the Pool of Undeniable Moisture. Once those grudges are settled, wizards of all nations can band together for the Triathlon of Terror, skating across a strangely fiery patch of ice and dodging bottomless pits. We should probably mention that nobody told the monsters the Triathlon was in progress, so your chances of survival are pretty slim.

Using a slew of quasi-legal new sporting goods and magicks exclusive to challenge and PvP modes, wizards everywhere can compete for the gold, which they really need ever since they forgot how alchemy works. Magicka WOOT includes:

  • 4 new PvP maps
  • 3 new Challenge maps
  • 10 new Sporting Goods items, including dumbbells, water bottles, and the Elevennis Racket
  • New “Athletic Techniques” magick, including Performance Enchantment and the crowd-pleasing Wave
  • Waves upon waves of nasty creatures who hate teamwork, wizards, and robes
  • The satisfaction of not having spent any money

Magicka: Woot has been automatically added to any Magicka owners.

The reason the game had a bad initial impression with critics was because it was released in a very buggy state, numerous patches have since fixed most of the technical problems.

Is this worth playing? The reviews I saw were in the "D" and "F" range, however it seems to have a cult following.

It's actually fairly fun, but only as a co-op game IMO, which it excels at. I was bored to tears when I play alone.

Wait until the next mega-steam sale on it and then pick it up. It doesn't cost much, but there is quite a lot of DLC available for it.

It's 75% off on Steam today, so now's as good a chance as any.

Note: to really have fun with this title you need to play with mics. You must be able to hear your allies' screams of frustration as you (accidentally?) blast them to smithereens.

Game as fun as hell, especially if you like Monty Python style humor. Most people who don't like it, get bogged down in the spell combos, but they're pretty easy to memorize.
