I honestly thought he was a serious asshole before all this. So it's not like it wasn't good PR. For megaupload, that is. Oh well, he seems kinda humane now.. and the US police force.. well it was always known that the US is absolutely insane in its world-police attitude. Let me just say Khaled el Masri
After that case, no American should be surprised if their gov is less then loved in Germany. Because that was really an eye-opener. 10 involved CIA agents are wanted now in Germany. And this was a HUGE thing back then. There is barely anyone here who doesn't at least know that the USA kidnapped a German illegally. Obviously most don't know the name, but stuff like this is why Germany is very very close to Russia even if it doesn't always sound like it. We would rather be friends with Russia than with the USA, Russia does not kidnap Germans and then releases them after torture somewhere in the tundra of some remote backwater country saying "sorry won't happen again" and then denying proper prosecution for the kidnapping and illegal deportation. If you want to piss of Germany really really badly, you start by ignoring our highest legal system and their judgement and then try to get it canned diplomatically, stuff like that gets you on a shit-list and this completely reshaped German/US relations. We actually don't give a damn anymore what the US gov wants and if we don't agree, we just ignore it altogether, as long as its popular with voters ^^
Sadly, this is often dampened and canceled in the EU (where obviously countries are included that have the USA not on their internal shit-list) Dude, it's worse than that. The USA kills its own citizens without due process.
And Russia is no picnic either dude. They pull shit on foreigners too.
I do hear the Swiss and the Swedes are quite nice, and Germany is pretty close to both Sweden and Switzerland. |
