Guild Wars 2 Stress Test Today

The Guild Wars 2 Facebook Page announces plans for a four-hour stress test today for Guild Wars 2, though this may not be a smooth experience due to how they are doing this (thanks VG247). Here's word:

We will be conducting a stress test on Thursday, August 2 from 12:00 Noon PACIFIC Time to 4:00 PM PACIFIC Time.

Unlike previous stress tests, we will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed. Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch. By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game. Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game! ~RB2

I'm calling out the only bozo who's one line has no arguments for or against, just an insult.

THATS the guy who deserves no respect.

But yes, I've been around and am not afraid to speak candidly. Sure not everyone shares the same opinion, that's life. but I also don't sugar coat and sit in the backroom hoping no one comes along and hurts my feelings. Nor do I cater to those who do.

Got an argument against what I'm saying, I'm all ears!

You can't really argue against what you are saying because you are just stating your opinion. You come off as supremely arrogant in your post, which is enforced by your user information.

In my opinion, GW2 takes what has come before and polishes it. They get rid of the ridiculous "holy trinity" of RPGs and let people play what they want. They get rid of the need to compete with people who are supposed to be your allies, and instead everyone benefits from helping each other, even outside of a formal group. They also improved upon WARs open world events, because when WAR cleared out it became impossible to do any open world events at low levels because there was nobody to do them with. GW2 scales them back so fewer people can still succeed.

And they have Charr. Which are awesome. So says a gamer who has "been around."

While I fully agree with Axis on his points, I still ended up buying the game because WvW felt pretty damn good and combined with Greenmangaming and their 20% voucher it was a really good offer. Wouldn't have touched it for full price.

This along with PS2 are the perfect sort of games where you can jump in for a little or long while, do some stuff and have some fun. The art design for the game is fantastic. While I wasn't overly impressed with the Sylvari starting area/homeland the Asura's Ratta Sun blew me away! Very impressive design.

Yeah that's what I liked about it. I felt there was more than enough new stuff to complement the familiar mechanics and I really liked their setting. It's great because there is a very hop in, hop out feel to the gameplay but they still have a lot of complexity under the surface if you want to dig in for longer periods of time. When WoW came out I had a lot more free time and didn't care about 5 hours raids and shit like that. These days time is a far more important currency to me than anything else and I love that I can get good MMO gameplay without feeling like I need to spend eons of time in there. In other MMOs that often comes in a hokey format like daily quests, Guild Wars 2 eschews that sort of busywork which is my favorite thing about it.

Uh no, it was just a different part of your post. You said the thing about bozos after the text about that specific user and have since alluded that people have to "make themselves try hard to want the game" amongst other things. As for arguing, you don't really say anything of substance or get specific about your issues with the game so it's hard to argue with vague rants.

There is something about Guild Wars 2 that I just can't explain that I like. I got the same feeling with Asheron's Call and the magic system they had. Granted nothing is new or revo. they pulled a Blizzard and took what others have done and polished up quite a bit. I hated Guild Wars 1 (only Collectors Edition I regret buying but hey I got a free headset out of it), and after 1 weekend with Guild Wars 2 I pre-ordered.

But Axis, you have an opinion, and while it's valid to you, saying that you know what the rest of gamers want is invalid. People still play Runescape even with tons of other better free MMO's out there.

I think what it comes down to is that Guild Wars 2 isn't a revolutionary MMO. MMO veterans that have burned out on the formula aren't going to play GW2 and feel as if the genre has suddenly become fresh and interesting again.

GW2 does a lot right for me. I love the art, the ease of cooperative PvE play, and the new skill and combat system. I've also never gotten into MMOs (with the exception of Guild Wars, which doesn't really count) so many of the MMO conventions don't feel stale to me.

It's a matter of expectations, but that's true for any game.

The game is 100% recycled MMO fads, there is nothing it adds to the genre, just piles on the stuff people expect to see.

The 'cooperative play' was already done, and done 100% better in WAR. GW2s version of running around getting experience on events with people isn't immersion, it's gimmicky and requires no cooperation at all. Higher level quests only numbers, not strategy. And character build doesn't matter, because there is no character specialization at all which is what made GW1 a gem.

GW2 is a bland game on many fronts. People may slog through it for a couple months at best if they try real hard to want to like it.

Cheddar-Jack cheese is 100% recycled dairy fad, there is nothing it adds to the flavor, just piles jack cheese onto cheddar which people already love.

The 'blending of cheese' was already done, and done 100% in Colby-Jack. Cheddar-Jacks version of just throwing in the most popular cheese in the world isn't creativity, it's gimmicky and requires no originality at all. Higher quality versions just add more cheddar, not jack. And consistency doesn't matter, because there is no standard for the Cheddar to Jack ratio at all which is what made Colby-Jack a gem.

Cheddar-Jack is a bland cheese on many fronts. Please may slop it onto a cracker or a couple sandwiches at best if they try real hard to want to like it.

Yet food has no gameplay... Cute tho!

Anyways getting back on topic, did we ever decide on a server for release or are we just following reddit?

I'm not sure it really matters, to be honest. To my knowledge the only thing that's restricted by server is World vs World participation. I'll probably join whatever server reddit finally votes on, just so I can be relatively assured of a high population.

You aren't very specific about the issues you had so /shrug. I didn't play a lot of WAR but I really liked the GW2 implementation of it. I played most of the last BWE and saw a lot of people co-operating in a freeform manner, in fact that's mostly what I saw. I thought their events implementation was pretty well nuanced too. Some were timed, others chained or triggered based on other criteria. Comparing with a friend we different experiences in the starting area and I thought that was pretty neat. It's hard to get a full scope of how deep character customization will run but I thought it was fleshed out enough for my taste.

Greenmangaming had this on their site the other day and you could use coupon codes with it. I think the one I used expired at the end of July but ended up getting this for like $45 which is a pretty good deal IMO considering there's no monthly subs and the game seems fairly meaty.

I thought it was a blast, enough riffs on the usual MMORPG stuff so that veterans are comfortable but enough new innovations to keep things interesting. I really liked their take on out of party co-operative play, its something that MMOs in general have needed for a long time. The events that unfold around you run the gamut from usual escort stuff to holy fuck world boss with 200 people fighting and all sorts of crazy shit going on. The PvP was a total hoot too and you can earn exp for leveling and stuff that way which was nice.

My big concern is that the launch might blow up in their face. Most of their stress tests have been in the ten to hundred thousand player marks and sim tests only take you so far. They really should just have a truly open beta for a few days to play it safe. Blizzard thought they had the Diablo 3 launch nailed and look how that turned out.
