Guild Wars 2 Stress Test Today

The Guild Wars 2 Facebook Page announces plans for a four-hour stress test today for Guild Wars 2, though this may not be a smooth experience due to how they are doing this (thanks VG247). Here's word:

We will be conducting a stress test on Thursday, August 2 from 12:00 Noon PACIFIC Time to 4:00 PM PACIFIC Time.

Unlike previous stress tests, we will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed. Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch. By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game. Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game! ~RB2

There's a difference between stating an opinion with actual facts to back said opinion up and just trolling for effect.

And no one's forcing you to buy or post about all the other games YOU claim suck so bad. What I'm pointing out is the hypocrisy. This site, hates damn near everything. But when the shoe is on the other foot, people can't take it. They'll sit there and tell you your opinion is wroooong. You can't possibly dislike the game, you must be trolling. They'll worm and weasel around any statement you make trying to paint the things you hate as "awesome and cool and you're just not doing it right!"

GW2 is a case of people investing so much into the hype that they get upset when people question it.

For a site population that likes to think of itself as the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race, it sure falls into the same habit of consoletard white knighting and acting like a video game is your personal family member who just got besmirched.

So no matter what, GW2 is a revolutionary success! They found the perfect game to shill for!

I guarantee you 90% of the people shilling GW2 won't even be playing a significant number of hours three months out and will have excuses like "Well at least there's no fee I'm paying, I got my money's worth!"

Predictable.

I've stated plenty of reasons the game is subpar here, more specifically I've sent them to Arenanet and posted feedback.

This is a forum to comment, and judging by your hundreds of comments, many of them filled with you calling people names, being a smartass or otherwise disrespectful, I expect trolls like you to smell his own shit and think it smells wonderful blinded by your own aroma.

I played during the BWE3 and this stress test and definitely liked the game. My approach to the game involved no expectations, and I based my opinion on how much fun I had. I know, that's old-fashioned, harkening back to the days when we'd spend our paper route money on a game and so we simply enjoyed it more and put more hours into it. Hard to find that today when you have, on the one hand, people who live on $0.99 mobile games and Zynga offspring, and on the other, people who pay to play the same game over and over again on a handful of maps in multiplayer.

I approached SWToR the same way, and guess what? I had fun for a few months, then moved on, all the while playing indie games and living a normal life. The only difference here is that I have a company who understands I prefer the pseudo-F2P model (I've paid out for LOTRO, PotBS, etc. during their F2P eras). I can drop $60, play to my heart's content, then pass on or sell my account, and spend money on cosmetic stuff if I feel so inclined.

It's not WoW, it's not a WoW killer, but again, no expectations. Just want to play a MMO with a few differences and get on with my life.

So if people don't restrict themselves to playing a single game they say is good, it must not have been any good at all? Are we not allowed to play different games? And you're saying you can't get your money's worth out of a game unless you play it at least X amount of hours per day or week three months after you first started? Dafuq?

Almost as bad as the guy who says he doesn't like it as if that's supposed to matter to anyone, other people don't care and move on but he returns later because he can't tolerate them enjoying it when he doesn't. And you'll never be able to tell him it was good to them because he will always have some reason why they aren't having fun or make up some garbage about why the sales figures being ginned up.

There is no shilling going on. You can't try to pass off perfectly good logic as ridiculous with sarcasm. If someone get 20 days of good solid fun out of it then I would consider that a pretty good deal and the fact that there aren't any sub fees is just icing on the cake. Beats sitting around cataloging what my friends are having fun with on their steam list so I can use it as forum fight ammunition.

I think Axis was fair enough with what he said, like duh it's his opinion.

Fannies don't have to get all nutted. This isn't the gift like it sounded a year ago. There was a lot loss and I mean a lot loss on skill selection vs GW1. I will say I'm not sure why Warhammer's DE's were 100% better. I'll be picking it up after a couple months, I for one didn't feel it was ready.

I also don't feel Axis came off any more pompous then the rest of us at BluePompousNews.com. I mean face it, we are all dramatic in our opinions here.

It will be wiped. No worries about that. Curious though. Can you delete all your current characters and then make a new one on a different server? If not, that might be a bug on their end.

Yes, Anet has stated everything but your friends list will be deleted prior to launch/early access. This includes server selection

Regardless though, I do expect the home server thing to cause a fairly strong uproar in the first few days after launch as it veers far afield of common MMO practice.

Theoretically even if it wasn't wiped it still wouldn't be a huge problem. With server guesting you could hop onto your friend server, they could come on yours. You could form a guild and chat cross-server. The only thing you couldn't do would be World vs. World PvP together.

Well, got in and tried to make a character on the server my friends and I had decided on... apparently accounts are server locked, it was asking me to pay 1,800 gems for a transfer, even after deleting all my characters. Hopefully the wipe before launch includes account settings, otherwise I'll be demanding a refund if I can't play with my friends without paying.

Ouch that's certainly a new thing. The group I'm going to be playing with changed our server in the last beta since the one we were on prior was full at the time. I guess those types of things are how Arena plans to make money with no sub fees.

Hmm. Not sure if it being enforced is no or not, but that was the plan for the game for at least a couple months now. You can still play your character on any server with any of your friends. You'll just won't be able to WvW with them. I imagine it might be revenue based, but it also might be that they want to discourage an account have characters on both sides of a WvW fight.

Obviously though, you can just buy two copies of the game.

It won't be an issue at all, it's not even that big of an issue right now, as long as the info is wiped along with the characters before launch, but if I'm still stuck on the same server at launch... well fuck that and fuck them.

Any chance of me trying this game before paying for it?

This worked nicely for Secret World as I knew within an hour that I had no interest in that game.

I suspect I'll like GW2.

Kinda regret preordering this. Got more and more unimpressed with this one as time went on. Giving my account to my brother. Can't play it on this craptop right now anyway.

Or.... Just get a refund, like I did...

The game may be a huge disappointment, but their CS was awesome... I really can't compare it to competitors though, as I have never asked for a refund before...

Greenmangaming had this on their site the other day and you could use coupon codes with it. I think the one I used expired at the end of July but ended up getting this for like $45 which is a pretty good deal IMO considering there's no monthly subs and the game seems fairly meaty.

I thought it was a blast, enough riffs on the usual MMORPG stuff so that veterans are comfortable but enough new innovations to keep things interesting. I really liked their take on out of party co-operative play, its something that MMOs in general have needed for a long time. The events that unfold around you run the gamut from usual escort stuff to holy fuck world boss with 200 people fighting and all sorts of crazy shit going on. The PvP was a total hoot too and you can earn exp for leveling and stuff that way which was nice.

My big concern is that the launch might blow up in their face. Most of their stress tests have been in the ten to hundred thousand player marks and sim tests only take you so far. They really should just have a truly open beta for a few days to play it safe. Blizzard thought they had the Diablo 3 launch nailed and look how that turned out.

The game is 100% recycled MMO fads, there is nothing it adds to the genre, just piles on the stuff people expect to see.

The 'cooperative play' was already done, and done 100% better in WAR. GW2s version of running around getting experience on events with people isn't immersion, it's gimmicky and requires no cooperation at all. Higher level quests only numbers, not strategy. And character build doesn't matter, because there is no character specialization at all which is what made GW1 a gem.

GW2 is a bland game on many fronts. People may slog through it for a couple months at best if they try real hard to want to like it.

I dunno I happen to like how GW2 handles dynamic events better than WAR, and that you're not kill stealing from others, and on large events how that everyone that contributes gets rewarded. Oh and the different skills depending on weapons equiped. Oh and the friendly level down mentor system that lets you help lower leveled friends catch up while not being over powered in a low lvl area. And that's just a couple examples of things I like about the game.

Just because you for whatever reason want to hate on GW2, doesn't mean you speak for every experienced gamer. GW2 may not be revolutionary, but it does a hell of a lot right and is imo extremely polished, with no monthly fee. So yeah, feel free to hate it, that's your opinion and all, and I'll feel free to think you're an idiot. Deal? Allthumbsup
