The major problem is more and more of what used to be complete products are being sold piecemeal, or worse, as services. Now everyone is looking to not only get their hands in your pockets, but keep them there. So, in effect, everything is becoming leasing or renting, but how many monthly fees can you keep paying to everyone? A game like PS2 with 1000's of players needs to be a service. A game like MWO does not. Just give me the SP/MP game and an editor would be nice too. Here's your one time fee, thanks, buh bye. Toss out some expansions or content that's worth buying and I'll buy it.
And all these devs/publishers can have all the pre-order crap they want but it won't sway me a single inch. Every year there are only several games that will get day one purchases regardless of what they do. The rest are all just sales waiting to happen.
