WoW Mists of Pandaria in September

The Mists of Pandaria expansion for World of Warcraft should launch on September 25th, announces Blizzard, saying: "Upon the expansion’s release, intrepid explorers of the Alliance and the Horde will be able to set foot upon the shores of the long-lost continent of Pandaria and embark on a perilous journey to uncover its ancient mysteries." The MMORPG expansion will be released digitally for USD $39.99, as a digital deluxe edition for USD $59.99, or as a retail Collector's Edition for USD $79.99, and they will also offer a deluxe upgrade for purchasers of the vanilla edition. Word is pre-sales are now underway:

Presales for the standard digital and Digital Deluxe versions of Mists of Pandaria are now live. Players who would like to purchase either version and be ready to play the moment the expansion launches can do so now by visiting www.WorldofWarcraft.com. The expansion content will automatically be digitally delivered to pre-purchasers via World of Warcraft’s streaming launcher prior to the release of Mists of Pandaria. Players who would like to preorder the standard box or the retail-exclusive Collector’s Edition can do so by visiting their local retailer.

“Mists of Pandaria contains the biggest variety of new content we’ve ever created for a World of Warcraft expansion, with features that will appeal to new players, veterans, and everyone in between,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’ve received a lot of great feedback from players during our most extensive beta test yet, and we hope they enjoy exploring everything Pandaria has to offer when the expansion comes out in September.”

Sadly, you're right. I thought fighting the twilight cult and Deathwing was a step down from the Legion and Scourge themed expansions. Now instead of going somewhere interesting, they head to kiddy land of happy pandas, pretty landscapes and over the top generic asian themed architecture. Talk about veering off course. Yeesh.

I wonder if he reads them, or if it's just for show.

Maybe they are trying to shake off their stereotypical neckbeard fan-base in favor of people who just want a laugh and a little fun.

I think that's it. Cataclysm reenforced that it's the casual player who's their largest segment, and also the most likely to leave, when they run out of stuff to do. So they're trying to add more appeal there, in hopes of keeping more players.

I dunno. It harmed world PvP to be sure, but otherwise I think it was totally positive. Travel time isn't really fun, and it is usually just left to artificially inflate game length. I probably would have quit long before I did without flying mounts.

hey guys, dont support price inflation. do not buy this game, and educate your kids not to buy any game at $79.99 either.

The formula got old awhile ago for me plus Guild Wars 2 and Borderlands 2 come out around that time so I guess this will be the first expansion I'll be skipping. I met a lot of cool people playing WoW though so I don't really dislike the game or whatever but you can only play the same game (with slight iterations on its base formula) for so long. I sure as hell don't miss raiding though

I think the addition of flying mounts did more to harm the game than it helped. There were plenty of convenient ways to get around and it hampered a lot of the social aspects and exploration in the game. Now every expansion they need to find some arbitrary reason to keep people grounded otherwise they just zip around from quest hubs like a Fedex driver. I hope other MMOs take note of that for the future. Looking at the preview material for this it seems to have a lot of really...casual features so I doubt it would be up my alley anyway.

Even if I didn't quit WoW years ago and had a full on hardup guild ready to raid, I couldn't get excited about this kiddy expansion.

Honestly folks, blizzard knows their base. And in an effort to keep the young kids with all the time in the world paying, you get this expansion -- targeted exactly to them.

heh...

I'm usually wary of Digital Deluxe versions, but this one has a D3 sigil, so I'm all over that...

Seriously though... I may partake, but it's hard to say... I imagine I would enjoy the new leveling content, and possibly the monk (which I'm sure will be crazy OP for the next 6 months)...

But my huge letdown with GW2 makes me wonder if that's mostly my waning interest in massives... Hard to say though, as I thoroughly enjoyed both Rift and SWTOR (for the short time that I played them).
