Serious Sam 3: BFE Linux Plans

Croteam and Devolver Digital announce plans to release a Linux edition of Serious Sam 3: BFE before the end of the year, saying this will include Steamworks support and all the features of the Windows and OS X versions of the first-person shooter prequel. Says Devolver CFO Fork Parker: "The last time I had anything 'Open Sourced' I was in Thailand, if you catch my drift."

For all of your accusations about others trolling and putting people on ignore, you seem to do an awful lot of it yourself nin. That was an incredibly immature and distasteful thing to post.

It's funny how everyone seems to ignore Desura. They provide almost the exact same service as Steam and is a lot more developer friendly yet everyone is creaming themselves for Steam DRM crap. I guess it's the possibility of the source engine and the few games it provides.
I was an early adopter of the Mac Steam effort and it was piss poor in the beginning. Source games ran like crap.

Could it be that... Ive never even heard of desura? nor do i know anyone i game with that has ever even mentioned it? so then i Google it and go there and its basically a bunch of no ones ever heard of indie games that have never been mentioned either?

Now that ive seen it.. for you to compare Steam and desura or attack the source engine... is well.. are you on some kind of psychotropic medication?

having said that.. it looks interesting enough for me to check out as a wow gee wiz kind of thing.

I think you are over estimating this effect way way too much. As much as I'd want a transition to a.. more.. free OS, the reality is that nothing will happen. Because this is a hen/egg problem. As long as linux has a below 1% market share in gaming, mostly nobody will make games for linux unless it is literally just a compile option. Same for mac. And late conversions are pointless. Linux needs several HUGE AAA titles coming out for it and windows at the same time to get any gains.

But because of this, macs and linux in general do not gain any momentum for gaming. Steam client running on it is fine, but how many of steams current games you think will run on something other than Windows and the specific MAC OS version they were made for? Have you noticed the major steam sales? How many of those games run on Linux, or have a mac version?

Yeah...

I don't ignore desura, I have games on an account with them.

BTW, IMHO games running like crap is more the fault of the mac, not steam

True. But Loki Games had not the user base Valve has now with Steam. The chances of success are much bigger now.

It's really starting to happen. Momentium in Linux as a gaming platform and I really think in 5 years we could see a whole new kind of PC ecco-system.

But whta in the world is being Open Sourced? It is still proprietary and it is wierd for people to say everything Linux is Open Sourced?????
I would encourage cautious optimism. We've been here before back in the 1999-2001, and it didn't end so well for Loki Games.

And so it begins!

Steam is the shot in the arm that Linux gaming needs, and I can't wait until the day I can dump Windows as my primary OS. It's coming. Gaming is the only thing that keeps me on Windows.

Same here, although one game from a bunch of crazy Croats doesnt exactly guarantee a gaming explosion on the OS....but you gotta start somewhere.....fingers crossed.....

I love open source software, and free software like Linux, but only unreasonable people would have an issue with entertainment software being proprietary. Being open source isn't a requirement for Linux. There are plenty of professional apps that have Linux versions that are proprietary.
