Out of the Blue

Sign of the times around here. Today's weather calls for a high temperature of 84°F, and all the talk is about how the heat is easing off. And joking aside, this is indeed a relief. And I confess, that the gradual warming trend since we've lived in this house has finally hit a breaking point for me, and I am now in favor of putting an air conditioner in the living room. MrsBlue remains resolute in this regard, so I have to give her credit for being tougher than I, and must come up with some sort of campaign to convince her this would be for the best.

Campaign Links: Thanks Ant and Acleacius.
Play: Liquid.
Links: Batman on Film.
Thank goodness the authorities have busted these hardened front-yard garden criminals.

I do admit...

A long time ago, back when I was like 5 or something, I spent the night in a small room with a ceiling fan. The fan wobbled because (I imagine) it wasn't balanced.

I had a fear that the blade would fly off and hit me. Not impale me, but definitely hit me. And since it was hot as heck that night and they didn't have A/C, it was either fear or feeling really hot.

Now, keep in mind I'd just broken some toys, one of which had something that spun around and then shot off. So it was a valid fear, especially since the thing was wobbly and the rest of the house I was visiting wasn't in the BEST of repair.

But, I was a kid so it was understandable.

I often don't let my ceiling fan run while I sleep though... because I find that when I do, I wind up "drying up" a lot during the night and sometimes start to dehydrate a little bit too much. That, and the extra noise makes it that much harder to sleep.

But on the rare times where our A/C has gone out, I leave it running.

That is hilarious and disturbing in one fell swoop.

Meanwhile, my wife and I both sleep with standing fans in our bedroom, to say nothing of the ceiling fans that run non-stop in three different rooms.

Also, can I point out that Staunch is "t3h man?" KTHX.

Uh, yeah. If there was a way to collect I'd gladly bet that I'll never have a health issue due to sleeping with a fan blowing on me...

OK, I have never heard of that before...

The Korea Consumer Protection Board (KCPB), a South Korean government-funded public agency, issued a consumer safety alert in 2006 warning that "asphyxiation from electric fans and air conditioners" was among South Korea's five most common seasonal summer accidents or injuries, according to data they collected.[1] The KCPB published the following:

If bodies are exposed to electric fans or air conditioners for too long, it causes [the] bodies to lose water and [causes] hypothermia. If directly in contact with [air current from] a fan, this could lead to death from [an] increase of carbon dioxide saturation concentration [sic] and decrease of oxygen concentration. The risks are higher for the elderly and patients with respiratory problems. From 2003 [to] 2005, a total of 20 cases were reported through the CISS involving asphyxiations caused by leaving electric fans and air conditioners on while sleeping. To prevent asphyxiation, timers should be set, wind direction should be rotated, and doors should be left open.

What????

The the midsouth might get that from June 1st to September. But the last time I looked from November to March they didn't get 24-80" snowfalls and assnumbingly(-25 to -30F) cold weather either. Though sometimes, if you're lucky, you do get freezing rain. But we get the snow, then freezing rain. Or sometimes the other way around, or sometimes we get the rain, then snow, then freezing rain, or a combination of any of those in any order. Making sure that chaos is beheld by all!

You're also welcome to trade that any time you want. We also get "wet winters" unlike those guys out in the US plains. Which means that cold, yeah. The cold chills you to the core, and bites at your soul.

I'm with you on hating the heat. I definitely use an oscillating fan pointed at my bed during the hot/warm months, despite having central AC (set at 80F). I generally don't use it in the winter months, but then I only set my thermostat at 64 in the winter...

just a thought about yesterday's OotB since I didn't read it until late, but your comments about Lin leaving the Knicks weren't exactly fair since NY, in fact, never even offered him a contract. He did what he did because the Knicks forced him to, opting to see how the market valued him rather than signing him right away. When they didn't like the value that came up, they bitched and threw him under the bus rather than taking any blame for treating him like a commodity. Which I don't have a problem with mind you; what I do have a problem with is them then turning around and vilifying him in public for meeting his market value. he can't control what the rockets offer him; all he can do is sign or not sign, with the long assurances from management that they'd meet any offer. again, not his fault they reneged on that promise.

Probably not.
I tend to believe that most fans love the 80s show and have never read the comic. Different ballgame.

Also, this praise is coming from the guy who brought us Heavy Metal 2000: My Pornstar Wife is Really an Actress.

Just put in a window air conditioner and let it run a few times a day to take the edge off. I don't know why she is so opposed to that, they're crazy efficient these days compared to central air and you can get a little Walmart one that will do the job for $150. Yes they make noise and are ugly but you tune it out and they aren't permanent. Overhead fans are swell and all but they don't help with the kind of humidity we're seeing this year. If you spend a bit of money on a decent brand and get a 12000+ BTU unit then it will probably do most of the floor its on.
