I think I'll make an add-on called "Version OCD Soother" which just moves the decimal in your about box one place to the left.

World peace ensues.

Let's make troubleshooting more difficult, let's make independent testing more difficult, let's pave the way for all software being leased and run in the goddamn cloud. Let's remove all user control.

Software totalitarianism.

They're all moving to background updating anyway so your hatred of arbitrary numbers that do not affect you will be somewhat answered

They/we don't give a shit either.

Then why do they keep raising the numbers (13, 14), instead of using revisions (4.07, etc)?

hurf durf I guess Firefox better catch-up lololol

And that's exactly what the FF devs are apparently thinking. So yes, they do give a shit.

edit: We'll keep mocking, as long as they keep doing stupid shit.

We'll stop giving a shit, when the devs stop giving a shit. How's that? :)

They/we don't give a shit either. It's the users that equate it with progress or try to compare it between products or other silliness. It just represents a different release or build.

I still don't subscribe to the idea that Mozilla switched to this style of versioning because Chrome's higher numbers. Devs change the versioning scheme all the time, part of why it's useless.

Here's my Chrome version: 21.0.1180.41 beta-m

Yeah I just use my web browser and don't care if its version 1.0 or 15.0. If I give a shit about a new release I just read the release notes so I can see what actually changed, the version number itself is pretty meaningless to the end user without them anyway.

Google sucks and Mozilla sucks for blindly following Google's efforts to trivialise the meaning of version numbers.

Google Chrome came out in 2008 and is now on version 20.

Firefox 14 is actually Firefox 4.10.

End of tiny rant.

Yeah it really is stupid what they do with the version numbers.
Changes from version 20-21 "fixed the spelling mistake in one of the sub menu"
Changes from version 21-22 "replaced the arrow direction in the refresh page icon"
etc etc
