Labels are mostly meaningless. Quick, what's Korn and Limp Bizkit? Ask their fans and they're metal. Ask anyone else and they're hard rock. Don't even get me into the infinite levels of subgenre. I mean, the Map of Metal has dozens of genres, but if someone says "so what kind of music do you listen to?" and the response is "deathgrind" you're going way too in-depth. But if someone says "metal, you know, like Korn"... basically genres are either meaningless or too in-depth.
Wait a sec, I thought Limp Bizkit was Nu Metal? |

So it seems once again you're stating your opinion on his recent work ("nothing special") and not the volume of music he's produced recently (which is quite a bit, and not "small project here and there").

While there was a decent gap between The Fragile (~2000) and With Teeth (~2005), the amount of music he has put out and the amount of tours he's done since then makes your "lazy" claim absolutely laughable (regardless of whether you find his recent work "worthy").
His work before 2000 was innovative and truly great, most of the stuff after 2000 is nothing special and some of it is pretty much "elevator music". Sure there are few exceptions but overall he just decided to do small project here and there nothing special. |

I really try not to get too involved in genres and sub genres because it feels like Biology and I ain't no Biologist.
I just say I like Tool/APC/Puscifer, NIN, Radiohead, Rammstein and various other bands which sound like they're killing a bear with a shovel. |

"Labels" or, y'know, "genres" are broad classifications, designed to help narrow down a conversation. They're not an end point unto themselves. Otherwise you're saying Frank Sinatra, Phish, Nitzer Ebb, Parliament Funkadelic and Justin Beiber are all the same thing.
I agree, there are infinite levels of subgenera, far more than there need to be, but there's also a starting point in using broad categories. That's why they're categories. To focus a conversation. Not to consume it. |

Reznor and the other musicians involved with NIN over the years are too talented for NIN to be a mere industrial band. NIN isn't industrial and as someone who long ago outgrew listening to outright industrial bands, that's a good thing.

No shame in that. You're a classic industrialist, while I'm more of a rock industrialist. I thing Fragile is probably one of the best records ever made. (There was actually quite a bit of good stuff on Year Zero, and The Slip as well, but Fragile is a high bar to set.)
Me, I haven't enjoyed a Ministry record since Psalm 69. But I like great big chugging guitars with a snappy beat, and a vocalist who isn't barking. (For this same reason, I'm pro-melodicore, but mostly anti-screamo.)
I think the most common incorrect assumption about NIN is that it's an industrial band. It's not. It's a rock band with industrial leanings. One's not better or worse than the other. |

After the 1990 to 1997 stint of crazy awesome albums, endless touring, creating great soundtracks for films and scoring a legendary game like Quake..I can live with the post 2000 slowdown. The guy somehow had a hand in much of my favourite entertainment as a teenager. |
