Are you sure you're in the right place? I think most blues news visitors have steam and probably buy a lot of games on it. And nevermind that there's a number of other games in steams top 10 for last week...

KS is a way to fund products; this is a way to increase the exposure of games already in development and which already have their own funding. It's pretty straight-forward.
It gives the community more influence and gives developers a better chance to get their game released on Steam. That's the complete opposite of the dick-moves that EA is famous for.
Still, I guess some people just like to moan a lot. |

Shame on Newell. I'm sure someone else that gives a shit can find the quote...but it was years ago that Gabe first suggested the idea of crowd-funding devs on Steam, but they said there were too many legal issues to deal with.
Regardless, based on their press release, this has nothing to do with crowd-funding.
PS: "Kickstarter" isn't one of it's kind. There are other sites doing the same thing, using the exact same web template as Kickstarter.
But hey, don't let that stop you guys from keeping your head up your ass.

This has nothing to do with crowdfunding. Game Y isn't on steam, either it didn't pass the approval process or it's stuck in the approval pipeline. Devs get a space in steam to promote their wares and get in contact with the community to drum up interest and get feedback. Community can push valve to approve the game.
So as an add-on to the internal approval process you now have a community version.
No money mentioned anywhere. This is for getting content ON steam, not developing it. No money. Who has time for reading when there is so much bitching to be done! Come on now, priorities... |

Shame on Newell. Pretty sure this has zero to do with funding a game and all to do with deciding if it gets listed on steam for digital distribution. |

I didn't see any mention of money, just a way to gauge interest. |

What a stupid program. So someone may not get published simply because their game isn't the flavour of the month? This smacks of reality TV BS! |
