Game was very good for a while. Now after some patches you really have to pay to get enough exp + cash to be able to upgrade. And no I am not a rookie, I have since loong time T54, E100 and tier 8-9 others.
And now even with my Ferdinand if I destroy 3 and I damage other 3-4 I still get LESS cash than my repairs and ammo !?
Damn (bielo)russians got a shitload of cash and still wants more destroying the cashcow

It's too much to hope for me that they will lessen the aggressive grind and f2p model, or fix matchmaking to not always put you with overly high tiers, in order to make you feel weaker and 'want' to buy tanks.

I personally would never go tier 10's in that game, they can add T10's till the cows come home.
Most fun for me was tier 3-5.
Best earners were tier 5-6.
That was a few patches ago.

I really wished I went the German line, but I didn't know any better, the germans seem much better all around, quite a few more 'good' choice tanks.

The German tanks are middle of the road. They don't have the penetration or damage values of any of the other nations, they don't have the armor of the russians(though the Tiger P and the 3601 do fairly well for their tier), they are vastly larger than other tanks of the same tier(late 1930s through early 1940s tank design up against late 1940s through early 1960s tank design for other nations), and their mid-tier medium tanks and top tier heavies rely heavily on HE damage, which has been nerfed, unnerfed, nerfed, and unnerfed quite frequently.

The biggest benefit of the German tanks is their reliability(aren't overly susceptible to ammorack explosions or engine damage) and their relatively accurate guns for sniping, but they trade off on armor and round penetration. The 88, which was the king of WW2, is basically underwhelming.

Honestly, your best bet is the Russian lines, particularly for heavies. Great armor, great guns, and probably the best overall tank in the game(IS-4)

As far as fun, Tier 3-7 probably is the most fun. There are tier limited matches, but they're random, so you might be the top tank tier 7 in one match and the bottom tank as a tier 7 the next.

Not from their perspective. They easily could/should lessen the tier divergence (closer to 2-3 max), those matches always seem best to me teamwise anyway. Also, it's not beyond programmers to matchmake based on real skills, player profiles can maintain plenty of gameplay data that can serve this well.

Making people feel "underpowered" in matches provides a mental "incentive" for people to pay for boosters, tanks, gold rounds.
Online games playing to people's insecurities seems to be an accepted practice, refined in mmorts's.

I wished they would just focus on making the most amazing game and hiring the most amazing talent, but they play some pyschological games too.

Where the game really gets you after that is, getting to the higher tier turns out to not be necessarily better afterall, for many.

In the early levels that gap gets progressively worse.

I've been logging in to play a few matches each night and the game really needs to work on trying to make the matches fair. It's far to common to be dropped into a match where you're just going to get blown away. That might be acceptable if when you perform well in those matches the game rewards you substantially but in my experience it doesn't. I think the best I've been able to get is approx 1000 xp and maybe 15k credits? Typically I get 200xp and 8k credits, but it costs me 1k to repair.

I'm in a tier 4? tank and the next tank upgrade is at 12,500 xp and 410,000 credits. I'll hit the xp needed soon enough but the credits needed is going to take an obscenely long time. I have the valentine which I think earns money a bit faster but again if you can't kill enemy tanks you're kind of SOL.

Still...it can be fun...and it's free...

I downloaded the 10 GB game this weekend and played it for a bit. The games not bad, it's just not really what I was looking for. It's pretty simple you just drive around a map & shoot other tanks in a rather "arcade" fashion. I was looking for more of a sim but it's not a bad game.

I think if you stick around a bit you'll find a bit more depth than meets the eye.
There is a bit of a learning curve to be succesful.

You also may want to check out the WOT wiki sometime...
Especially the section on battle mechanics, it will save you frustration on understanding sighting mechanics, and help you start using them to your advantage.

It took weeks before I actually started to delve a bit deeply into this stuff, I would say their is more depth than meets the eye.

From what I've seen it's about as much of a sim as space "sims" like X-Wing, Freespace, etc. There's a lot of details like armor sloping and locations of internal components that you wouldn't usually see in a full-on arcade shooter. On the other hand, apparently you also see tanks bonking into each other, too.
