It already got the class updates (which is where the flare gun came from) long long ago. Wasn't it one of the first ones to do so? I didn't think they were going to do anything to it, because yes, I remember the pyro update--but so many people everywhere were talking changes that I thought I might have missed something.
Classes get nerfs/boosts all the time, in addition, so the whole 'pyromania' thing would be a good time for any that they were planning for the pyro. Like, the heavy had the sandvich nerf 'recently', and got a speed boost at some random update a couple years ago, etc. |

Pyro was way cooler when the fire stuck to the floor and made anyone stepping on it catch on fire too.
That was OP but it was a lot of fun.
While I'm at it, Engineer mini-sentries should be stick-able on the ceilings and walls.

On the other hand, I rather love my degreaser+compression blast+flare gun. I can dominate with that. Please don't take it away. It's pretty much universally accepted as the weakest class, so I wouldn't expect any nerfs. |

Spy is great at dragging the flag out of the base and/or resetting the pick-up timer. Just go in cloaked or with dead-ringer (dead ringer is best) and touch the flag. If you move it on top of that, it's a bonus. Even if you are on fire you can often still touch the flag and reset the timer. The more you have the enemy's flag/intel out in the open the more they have to play defense.
Smart teams will have someone switch to pyro to use the compression blast to keep spies away from the intel/flag. If someone actually grabs the flag then you can use compression blast to send them flying backwards.
I think demo-man is a bigger newb class than pyro. All you have to do is set up sticky mines and wait.
On maps with capture points things are a bit different. Spy is suited to screwing with teleporters and sentry guns on those maps. |

If any class is a newb class its pyro, you can run in and set everything on fire and die and maybe get some assists because you set everything on fire. But it still takes skill to master, I don't see too many real good pyros, but when I do they're pretty devastating. Exactly. I very rarely play as spy because I don't find it enjoyable. It takes a lot of time and effort to master when every other class is considerably more fun. Chain stabbing the cart though is pretty fun. |

Hahaha come on, in what universe is Spy a newbie class? It is one of the most difficult classes to play effectively and requires a lot of foresight and strategy. Opposition teams are well trained to shoot first on many servers so you have to effectively imitate other players, their routes and know where what class will be when which requires a well rounded understanding of class balance in general. You also need good timing and instinct to pick your goals to best help the team, not to mention a bit of luck. deqer's definition of a newbie class is probably "whichever class usually kills me in something that I think wasn't a fair fight." He probably imagines that spies just walk around cloaked or disguised, killing whoever they want instantly with bacstabs. No kidding. I've tried playing a spy occasionally, but I've found that I don't have the patience for it. It really is a difficult class to play well. I see lots of really lousy spies though, and they tend to get repeatedly killed in humiliating ways on most servers Spy is definitely one of the harder classes to master, and it really depends on how alert the other team is, and how good your team is at providing enough of a distraction for you to slip through the lines and cause some damage.

One thing I've learned from playing TF2 since 2007: At one point, some jack ass has referred to every single class as "the n00b class", without exception.
Here is the secret to TF2: They're all "noob classes", it's just that they all also have enough depth to make them all classes for vets as well. |
