I have a friend who hasn't stopped playing D3 since it came out and he's claiming $1,300 currently. Seems ridiculous but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me.
Other people at work, that I'm more apt to believe, are saying numbers like $150-300.
Either way that's a shit ton of money for a game that originally cost them $60 and they were going to play regardless of the existence of an RMAH. |

Chat channels, other forums, there is a trading forum on the B.net forum. There's plenty of other ways to sell goods other than the AH, and until the commodities auction was back up it was the only way to sell gems and crafting supplies. Sure but I was referring specifically to this vague black market where people were whipping around real money for gems or whatever. The only way I could see it happening is to liquidate the high end gems for gold and sell that. Oh well I don't really care, I just found the claim pretty amusing.
Anyway if people just want to play the game with the goal of making money then botting gold is easiest and most efficient way to do it, even with the nerfs to pots and such. Assuming the price drops to something low like $4 per million and your bot is a POS that only makes 50k an hour you could still make the cost of an account back in under a week and then everything else is gravy. Given Blizzards penchant for banwaves you would likely make hundreds and that's without taking into account any item drops.

You basically bot gold, exploit a chest or farm items like everyone else, there's no magic to it. Honestly that part of the game will just ruin your enjoyment of it anyway, I'm already finding it hard to stay engaged when I play since I farmed way too much. I've just been listing stuff at $5 across the board. Made about $30 so far. Won't be using it as a full time job any time soon, but it pays for lunches. Yeah that seems to be the best way to do it these days. Once in awhile you can land a $50-75 high ticket item through farming but its pretty much luck of the draw. Plus you spend a lot of time getting it so the "value" is a bit questionable in the end.

I have quite a bit of free time for the next few weeks untill I start a new gig so I could make some cash meantime. I think Mash was selling things on the black market though (which Blizzard doesn't seem to have a problem with so I don't know how "black" it could really be). It'll be much harder to make that on the actual AH.

The early rush is over, it's a lot harder to make money now. If you are going to play it to make money you pretty much need to camp the AH 24/7 and have the knowledge on what is a good deal or spend that time farming Inferno. I doubt that guy made a grand or anything near it btw, I spent a longass time farming Inferno Siegebreaker and I'm nowhere near that.
If you're going to buy the game, my advice is to do it to play and just assume you won't make anything on the RMAH. That way at least anything you make is gravy. |

There are going to be a lot of people with buyers remorse in the next few days, particularly with the patch dropping and the item changes. I can't believe how much people were dropping on items, any time you spend more than the value of a $60 game then I'm sorry but you are officially an idiot. Thankfully there are seemingly many to go around which lets the rest of us profit |

Roadmap to Profit: How to Make Real Money on the Diablo III Real Money Auction House… I have been pretty successful buying cheap items soon after them being posted in the gold AH and then reposting them at a higher amount and they end up selling later. Items with high stats people don't realize they are worth more than what they are selling them for. |
