This is sad ... I don't see it like any of you do. For one, of course NVIDIA is doing this. I think it's pretty obvious the industry is moving in this direction, at least for some time, and NVIDIA should be there when it does. People whine endlessly when media companies don't change their operating model in the obvious face of technology, so why shouldn't we when hardware companies do?
As for this killing idea, why would it? Did Steam? No? Steam helped, right? Did iTunes or Spotify end music? No, they helped, right? This has the potential to open up an exceedingly cheap distribution method, which means MORE choice, not LESS choice. It would turn games into a cable tv esque service, on demand, which means getting onto it would be pretty damn easy, just like Steam. |
