Diablo III Hotfixes

The list of Diablo III Hotfixes reflects a couple of bug fixes that went live a couple of days ago in Blizzard's action/RPG sequel:

  • Players can no longer gain achievements they have not earned by joining a Public Game with someone who has earned those achievements
  • Monks can no longer infinitely stack the damage buff from Combination Strike by changing weapons.

Why stop there? Let's imply he has a 14 inch peni... er... monitor... wait, that was somehow backwards...

I notice it all the time on my twenty FOUR inch WS, but that's because I'm always using it...

We were just talking about it last night, the 2 handed weapons seem to be pretty sad even with a socket. Two 1 handed weapons with sockets is so far superior that it is a waste of time to use a 2 hander. Maybe give the Barb ability to dual wield 2 handed weapons with a penalty of some sort?

Yeah, there's just a lot of flavor stuff like that missing. Remember elemental modifiers that meant something in D2? Lightning had a chance to stun things, fire did a dot and so on. You could add sockets to items through a quest or reroll a weapon. I think the biggest problem with 2Hers right now is that only a Wizard or WD can make great use of them on the higher difficulties, you pretty much need a sword/board to survive as melee. Dual wielding two handers is another obvious ability, I'm pretty sure most would prefer that to Throw Weapon or whatever. Although ironically Throw Weapon isn't half bad considering Inferno consists entirely of kiting.

Also its pretty funny that Monk has the best summon in the Ally ability. It inherits your stats/resists, buffs and actually does damage.

I think it's that sort of stuff that makes Path of Exile a lot more interesting than D3. Maybe when the expansion comes they'll add something interesting to the game.

Honestly? No. I finally broke down and had to buy gear from the GAH to progress. This game had so much potential and they fucked the pooch. I agree that the 1.03 changes should have been live at launch. Did they do no research or receive no feedback during beta?!

They didn't really beta test any of that stuff (externally), it was more about client/server stuff. I don't think Inferno really got beta tested properly at all. Its weird, Diablo 3 is a game with a lot of polish that still appears to be rushed in many ways - skill problems on higher difficulties, loot system issues, overall difficulty curve all out of whack and etc.

I farmed A3/4 on Inferno already doing chest runs and the drops aren't really more interesting, just more valuable to sell on the AH. When I look at the loot there isn't really anything I want to go collect, none of that "whoa that item has teleport, must have!" type feel. Even the set bonuses manage to be pretty boring, I think I saw one or two I cared about.

Anyways I hope they really sit down and re-examine the loot table and the difficulty curve if nothing else. Witch Doctors and Barbs could really use some love too, they have so many abilities that just don't work on the higher difficulties.

Beta was only up to the skeleton king in normal mode, for what its worth I think that part of the game is balanced perfectly . Even crafting isn't completely useless at that point. I'm not at end game (close), so I don't know if it becomes useful again.

As for tin foil hats and drops, I'll wear one, their forumla is: RNG - (x^y)= item x=usefullness to character's class and y=how badly an upgrade is needed.

You'd think that a bug where people get achieves they haven't earned just by joining games would show up even on minimal internal testing of the patch. Are they letting us beta test the patches now?

After 100 hours, it only happened 1x for me. I had been in many games where my friends had gotten cheevos for jewel crafter or blacksmith - and I didn't get it then. I dunno. Weird stuff.

Normally I try not to be this dismissive but honestly who cares, its Diablo achievements. Sure they should beta test the patches, it worked fairly well for D2 in catching a lot of problems but it's not like that particular bug was one where everyone should exclaim "see?! I told you so!!!".

What do you mean "US"? Last I checked you didn't own or play the game.

I got a String of Ears Legendary the other day.. Made my Barbarian (lvl 55 at the time) very happy : )

Not an ideal roll on the stats, but I look at the bright side... the only Barb specific stat it got was strength, and the strength is crappy (30 ish), so while I could lament on how bad it is compared to the ultimate roll, I'm happy I can pass it on to other chars when they catch up ; )

Until then I am gone.
Im really getting sick of only being able to farm act 1 inferno and only see crap drop that maybe sells for 5k.

I think they want me to play a demon hunter, cause every other drop is a quiver or occasionally a hand crossbow. I don't know the last time I saw a wand drop, sometime back in nightmare I think :/

Even with full stacks of Nephalem and I see drops explode off a boss I have a hard time getting excited about it.

It's no better for us Demon Hunters. I seem to get more wands and monk gear.

That is why I run all characters. Almost all have beat Diablo 1x.

hmm, that first item might explain what happened to me last night when I joined Krovven's game. He had just upgraded Blacksmith and taught him something, and I popped 2 cheevos. weird.

oh well, not like I won't get those ones anyway. Was just kinda weird.

What's offered in 1.03 should have been included in the release if they actually bothered testing Inferno instead of covering their eyes and saying it looks great.

I don't have a lot of motivation with grinding MF as I did before because it's about a 1:10 chance that one of the rare items that drops is actually worth anything. Christ, I don't even remember the last time an actual upgrade dropped for me and I'm in a mix of 61 - 63 gear and a lousy 1150 DPS 2H farming A2 and A3. Anyone else remember their last found upgrade?

As for the bows and quivers, it seems like the amount I find have been drastically reduced but are still the most common items I come across with my Barbarian. I don't want to wear a tinfoil hit and suggest it's 'balanced' to force other class drops more depending on the one you play, but sometimes I wonder...

Yeah, a friend of mine commented that in solo games there should be a modifier to make dropped items slightly more in line with what your class could use. I don't know, I'm kinda torn on that, I don't like hidden game modifiers and stuff that isn't exposed properly in the interface. On the other hand if it just applied to solo games then it makes a bit of sense as people want to gear themselves up.

I don't have a problem with the drop rates themselves on items, you get loot pretty frequently but nothing sucks more than getting a level 48 claw when you kill Inferno Belial. They obviously put little to no time into Inferno, some of the problems are really obvious stuff. Also Jay Wilson admitted he was responsible for making bosses only drop blues on subsequent kills in new difficulties, that shit needs to be reversed. People play to farm and get loot, it is a pretty simple formula, I don't know why they keep messing with it.

I revisited Path of Exile a bit last night, it has come a very long way since the last time I played a beta build. I'm getting a bit excited about that one.
