I already owned SOASE and its micro expansions, i went ahead and bought rebellion to get access to the beta. Normally i just play vs the AI....well let me tell you that the AI is beefed up quite a bit at the higher difficulty settings. I'm finally getting the challenge i always wanted from the AI. The new units with the AI and vastly upgraded weapon effects basically make this game how sins should always have been.

I am planning to do the same as you, wait for a sale then pick it up. I have enough games to play as it is anyways. Barely have any time to play them is the problem. |

Great review Jag, thanks. I picked up the original Sins a couple of years ago, and it sat in shrinkwrap on the shelf until last week when I installed my new Ivy Bridge proc and 8 GB of RAM (I was concerned my old core duo and 2 GB of RAM wouldn't handle larger battles. Other RTSs would crap out during large battles). Now I'm working my way through the tutorial, and learning how to play, and Rebellion comes out, so I was wondering if I should pick up the latest and greatest. I really appreciate how you down-rate it for people who already own Sins. That really helps me make my decision. I'll play this for a while and then pick up Rebellion when it goes on sale.

Good review, as expected unfortunately.
As far as the graphics improvements, the engine really does have great graphics, but you have to zoom in to an unplayably-close level to appreciate that. Then you zoom right back out and stop seeing them for the rest of the game. |
