Business will NEVER leave Windows dependencies behind but if an OS could offer 100% compatibility with Windows drivers and the API's it could completely dominate. And Microsoft would promptly sue them out of existence. Just saying...
I love the commentary on that article. A bunch of people so desperate to suck Steve Jobs' dead cock that they run around saying "perhaps he was ultra-philanthropic but just didn't want to be known as being charitable!"
This is Steve Jobs, the guy who was infamous for how big of a prick he was. The guy who his closest friends said had two sides to him: Good Stevie and "evil stevie". The man who threatened to boot people out of Apple because Wozniak had the *audacity* to share his own money with people who got f*cked out of bonuses and dividends in Apple. The man who was thrilled with the slave labor factories in China because they let him operate on a whim, changing design specs in the middle of the night during a production run. He *loved* that peoples lives were torn apart by his whims.
I used to put it this way: Hate MS or not, Bill Gates has promised to end Malaria before he dies. Steve Jobs either bought his way to the front of the liver transplant line or bought a liver from... somewhere...
Today though, having heard all the anecdoetes about Jobs that I have, I can say that I'm 90% certain he was a Sociopath. Let's look at the WHO's symptom list:
Callous unconcern for the feelings of others. (his almost hatred of charitable acts)
Gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations. (They used to call it Jobs' "reality distortion field")
Incapacity to maintain enduring relationships, though having no difficulty in establishing them. (Look at his behavior with his daughter and that situation)
Very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence. (Evil Stevie anyone?)
Incapacity to experience guilt or to profit from experience, particularly punishment. (Not sure on this one, I'd have to read more to comment)
Markedly prone to blame others or to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior that has brought the person into conflict with society. ("You're holding the iphone 4 wrong"?)
So, out of six symptoms, Jobs hammers at least 4, and symptom six seems to be akin to what his personality seemed to be like, and I don't have enough information for symptom 5.
I'm going to say sociopath. |
