| Not that it matters because nobody plays Rage anymore ;p Would have been relevant on release, doing this stuff nearly a year after release will just vaporize into thin air... |

I remember when the Rage tech demo was shown on an iphone4. Talk about having your priorities screwed up.

Yeah I even signed up for twitter to ask them about this since its often the only way to get companies to listen anymore, never heard back. |

I really liked doom3 multiplayer.
It was unfortunate that too many people didn't know about bunny hopping, and wrote it off as a slow game (when it was actually one of the faster FPS' around).
(I was literally vote kicked countless times for "speed hacking")
And the weapon balance was spot on. Each gun had its classic role. MG for drain-sniping SG for close OHKs CG for mid range RL for area denial / bouncing PG for hallway saturation / retreating Everything had a role where it shined. Good stuff.

Like other games, multi-platform killed this game. They cut back and left out too many modern (standard?) features resulting in RAGE being very lackluster.
I hope Carmack and company are ashamed of themselves but I doubt they care. |

Wasting resources on a whole new game of this will probably not go well. DLC could work if it is interesting and cheap to develop.
I would like to see them put a branded muscle car or something in there as DLC. |

| At this point I won't be picking up anything that uses an id engine or is an id game anyway. They can try to make Rage a franchise all they like, but I think the steady price drop from month one is a good indicator of how much the game sucked. |

| But videogames don't need plot, plot in a videogame is just as important as plot in a porn flick! And who needs level design, all good level design does is distract you from shooting enemies you have no reason to care about since that pesky plot isn't there to get in the way. It's like you guys don't want anything more innovative than the original Doom! |

That is just... hilarious In before some apologist says "b-b-but megatextures are the future!" I cringe every time I see comments about Rage saying it has a "great engine" and "looks gorgeous". It was designed for consoles, and is so completely outdated on PC that even the original Unreal engine is superior. |

SV and I were discussing this in another thread a few days ago. I think my problem with Rage was that it was so half baked. There was no real design ambition, they cherry picked features from other games and implemented in such a way that you can almost see them ticking off bullet points for marketing. It just tried too hard to be many different things and didn't really excel at anything. The launch problems were largely met with ambivalence and blame shifting from both id and AMD which didn't help matters either.
Invisible walls are obnoxious too btw and this game had them everywhere. I remember this one dumb section in a town where you had to climb up to talk to some guy and you couldn't even hop down a level after getting your "quest" from him, they had walled off every platform. Just absurd. |

The only way to make a decent RAGE follow-up would be to change the engine, change the developer and strip out everything from the original game. Honestly, it was a disaster. Terrible AI, terrible level design, terrible graphics, annoying gameplay mechanics, worst auto-save implementation, boring "plot", half-assed co-op and tedious boss sequences. Very, very disappointing. If it was simply Borderlands with a more serious setting and better graphics - as the early trailers suggested - it could have been great.
As for Doom 4, does anyone really give a shit if it's going to be using the same engine as RAGE? In fact last I heard they were talking about forcing it to run at 30fps on all platforms. I mean, WTF? Bethesda needs to seriously increase its quality control. In fact, what the fuck is id Software good for? Their game engines are shit, their plots are shit, the gameplay mechanics are shit, their level design is shit, their vehicle physics is shit. Bethesda needs to increase funding to their own games studio and sell off id Software. |
